The good first! I was very pleased with my outfit, and I'm always happy to see my friends, whether in costume or not. And lunch at City Tavern was delish, as always. Why do I not go there more often? Their lunch prices are very reasonable. (I loved my raspberry shrub and my turkey pot pie!)

You'll be very displeased to hear that I got ONE picture of my outfit. And the way the wind's blowing my skirt in between my legs, it feels...indecent. That's me, always indecent! But since I only got the one, you'll have to make do.

All I had to finish sewing after work was the fastenings, but it took a while to gear myself up to sew thread bars. They're alright once I get going, but how I hate the idea of them before I start! Besides, I could always pin the spencer closed...

buuuuut I sternly told myself it would be ridiculous not to put fastenings on if I had the time, and I did, so I have fastenings. Woo.

I like the trim I ended up using, I just wish I'd had more of it! But it was Stash trim, and a few years old, so of course the J has gotten rid of it since then. Really ought to have it around the collar too...but I had an inch and a half left over, so that is that.

And I've been checking the weather forecast obsessively; looks like we'll have no rain! Rained itself out tonight. Whew.

Decided I need proof that I've got something of a spencer in progress! Have achieved collar as of tonight. Yes, it's nearly the same collar as my black wool spencer, how boring. But I like a high collar, what can I say! Especially when the derpy chemisette withe the clown ruff is going to be worn...it likes a high collar to look slightly less derpy. Or, intentionally derpy. Whatever, it's a Look.

I didn't want the collar to be too heavy, relative to the rest of the garment, so instead of a canvas, I used two layers of silk organza for interlining. I'm always impressed with how pad stitching holds up a collar! Even floppy washed linen. TAKE THAT, IRON-ON PELLON! xD

Pinned the side and shoulder seams on the spencer to try it on before sewing it all up - looks like it will fit so that's good. I can't find any spencer sleeve patterns though, and that is annoying. Sometime soon I need to cull and reorganize my patterns...and maybe find lost sleeves floating around somewhere.

The straw hat blanks are a bit of a mixed bag so far - I'm working on two at once just to practice shaping them! The twisted seagrass one I picked to do first because I suspected it'd be the easiest to shape, and I was right; I'm done with that one apart from some fine-tuning. (I wouldn't call it good, by any sense of the word, but...passable??) The honeycomb straw is proving a bit more recalcitrant, which is why I ended up ordering the roll of buckram last night. The twisted seagrass is for Robin, as she's kindly volunteered to take my dubious experiments in headgear off my hands, but if I get fed up with the straw I'll cover a buckram form instead!

LWD done

I sewed the hooks and eyes on this afternoon, and the white dress is therefore done. Seems to fit in a not-too-appalling-manner, but I didn't want to take pics of it over a green t-shirt, so maybe tomorrow, haha.

Will definitely not be able to fit a spencer on the leftover swiss dot, so red it is! I'll use my black wool spencer pattern, with just a bit of tweaking (as it's over a thin muslin rather than wool). I seem to have lost the sleeves though...and I know that pattern had sleeves because I labled the envelope "collar and sleeves"! Haven't the foggiest where they went, though, so it appears I'll be mocking up new sleeves for it...

ETA: Or apparently I used the pompom spencer pattern! This is seriously why I keep sewing journals, so I can go back and figure out wtf I did! Now, let's hope the pompom spencer pattern has sleeves with it.
