....which is both the reason for my lack of posting in the past few days (why does everything TAKE SO LONG to make?!) and the reason I'll have a much-less-impressive wardrobe for Gettysburg than hoped! Have decided to prioritize finishing the odds and ends on the pieces I already have, rather than attempting to make some more half-finished things.

Also, I'm glad I tried on the Dress of a Thousand Triangles today, because I'm going to have to put a placket in, which is, uh, putting it generously. To say "it almost doesn't fit any more" would be sadder yet more appropriate. Thank goodness I decided to have it lace shut rather than use hooks and eyes. Well, it has been a year and a half since I last wore it... If this trend continues, I may need to make a new ballgown for Remembrance Day weekend 2014!

Alice's bonnet is this close to done, I just need to put flowers and crap on it. I was going to bang out all the machine sewing on Robin's bonnet tonight, but have apparently hidden the wire from myself really well. I JUST used it, where the hell has it wandered off to?? So, gotta buy more wire after my shift at work tomorrow. (...floral wire. I've never bought real millinery wire in my life.)

So, don't expect too many posts in the next week, since not much fun sewing will be happening!

In short: Amazing! I'm already looking forward to next year!

And then you have the long version. With pictures mostly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] jennylafleur, [livejournal.com profile] madamekat, and [livejournal.com profile] quincy134,and a few from [livejournal.com profile] sadievale!

In conclusion: great conference, fun to hang out with old friends, get to know some better, meet some new people (who we hopefully didn't scare off!)...let's do it again!

And yeah, that write-up took forever. Link to album if, for some reason, you want to see all your photos again!

Just needs a hem, and it's done! Which is good, because I wasn't looking forward to staying up all night tomorrow after a long shift at work.

1860s

I think it just took me an hour to sew and iron five seams in a skirt. Really??

I was going to get the skirt sewn to the bodice tonight as well, but now I'm thinking I might trim it differently than I was originally panning, and it would be easier to do the bulk of trimming before attaching the skirt, in that case. But I'm not sure. Um.

Plus, I'm tired. Only worked six hours today, but the air conditioner had "issues", so it was in the upper 80s in there most of the day. Needless to say, there weren't many customers. So I'm tired!

1860s

But first, meet The Roommates' Cat! His name is Romeo (he came with the name, apparently), but I've dubbed him Squeaker, because he does not meow - he squeaks. Like a squeaky faucet (which we have in the bathroom, and I never am sure if it's the faucet or the cat making the noise!).

Not as handsome as my Willow, and a bit of a weenie - spends most of the day hiding in the attic. Still, he's gotten comfortable enough with me now to sit on my fabric, and abscond with my chalk, which now has tiny toothmarks. And he's sitting next to me on my bed right now. I'll get him to like me best, just wait and see! *grin*

Anyway - sewing! )

After having a nice sulk for the rest of the night yesterday (watched a ridiculous amount of all types of Sherlock Holmes on YouTube...why is Nigel Bruce's Watson so incredibly stupid? More importantly, why on earth would Holmes keep someone that incredibly incompetent around?), I don't feel so bad about the 20s dress.

I've put it in the naughty pile for now. If I have time to mess with it after I finish the 1860s dress, I'll give it another shot. If not, that's fine. Then I'll wear my pseudo-1890s green silk dress (which means it will get worn twice in two days, but that's OKAY, I LIKE IT. Even if it doesn't fit me as well as it did when I made it four years ago!) to the Titanic dinner.

Now that that's out of the way, ON TO THE SEWING.

Well, doesn't look like much, but I spent quite a few hours on finishing the bertha today! Hand sewing, you know. And cutting little triangles out of a hundred and ten inches of fabric. Can't wait for the skirt flounces!

I feel like it needs something more...but what? No, you can't see all those painstakingly cut little triangles very well at all.And the length of the bodice is probably a bit on the short side, but EH. First 1860s ballgown, what do you want?

(Plus it's not like I can make it longer now, anyway.)
