Allaire GW Birthday

Well, it wasn't as populated an event as we sort of had the impression it would be, but since there were five of us this time and we have no problem entertaining ourselves anywhere...a good time was had by all, I think! Allaire billed it as "see how they celebrated George Washington's birthday in the early 19th century!" so I told everybody to wear Regency...and then they were all in their usual 1836 costumes. EXCUSE ME, VERY MISLEADING. But we were terribly fashionable, if in the wrong year, so no one minded, haha. Actually I think "Tessa's friends" are starting to get a bit of a reputation... (for being obnoxious, I mean)

Obnoxious? Who, us?? Nevah!
As can be seen, I did not bother finishing the fur-trimmed pelisse, which was a Good Idea. Very balmy for February! Finally decided on my Little White Dress, worn (slightly crammed, really) over my shirt that goes with the pompom outfit (looked dumb, but I really wanted long sleeves that weren't wool! and I didn't take the spencer off at Allaire), and the black wool spencer. Gotta love Regency separates.
They were silly enough to tell us about a couple of events we think will be fun to invade; Tessa's getting married in June (as Maria Allaire, daughter of the owner! not as Tessa. we wouldn't allow that), and then they're having a new event in August: a barn dance that we're cheerfully referring to as a "ball", because we are fancy. The first man to tell us about it said we could wear whatever we wanted, and we said NOOOOO, give us parameters! 1830s? Okay, that we can do. Hence the not-spangled-spangled dress brainstorming! The wedding's a "probably, if we remember," but the dance is definitely happening. We may have been promised candlelight, even.
We poked around in the buildings (mostly listened to the very chatty carpenter) until the Special Thing in the chapel at 1, which turned out to be some Washington-related readings/poetry, and a vicar with a truly epic moustache.

And then we kidnapped Tessa from her volunteer duties, and wandered around some more. Although, I am starting to think she's been secretly assigned as chaperone to keep us out of trouble, hahaha!

She's mostly successful. MOSTLY.

Robin pilfered my pink bonnet when I took it off to dance... the kids (seriously, it seems like 90% of their volunteers are under 20) asked if we'd like to do a reel before we left. Of course we did! Robin took one for the team and stood out to take a million pictures of us dancing. And steal my bonnet.

I look remarkably miserable in all of the pictures taken while dancing, but I promise the only less-than-ideal part of it was keeping an eye on the patch of mud that we kept tromping through, and I was sure someone (me) would fall in, but we stopped the set before it was my turn to mud-tromp. Happily.

And The World's Most Attractive Barrel, y/y?

Guys. We are so, so period.

And then we went to the nearest Panera for eats, and stayed waaaaaay too long, and apparently were really entertaining to the guy at the next table on his laptop! Because eventually he ventured an, "I have to ask..." Yes, we are weirdos. No, we are not in a play. Yes, we are having an inappropriate conversation in Regency while shoving food in our faces. Which, all in all, means it was a good day!
