Er...I covered a brim?

In my defense, I've been re-reading The Count of Monte Cristo nights this week (I like to read a bit before bed), and last night I got to the very exciting part, stayed up far too late, and just HAD to finish the whole thing this afternoon instead of being dedicated and sewing things like I ought. Besides it being fun to see all the horrible people get exactly what they deserve (and then some), I love any historical novel that gives a nod to what its characters are wearing, and is also kind enough to tell me the precise date, so I can enjoy mentally costuming everyone! (I didn't remember the clothing descriptions from last time I read it...I think I know a good deal more about the 1830s now, which helped!)

I adore re-reading...I know some people who don't, and I don't understand it! A book I've read and like enough to read again is like an old friend. *snuggles books*

I understand why they don't (they also often don't want to watch old familiar movies), but I just don't feel the same way they do. I've got shelves and shelves of books I would gladly reread. That was my criterion for sorting through books before I last moved - would I like to reread it? Keep it. Am I quite sure I'll never reread it (or is it falling apart)? Dispose of it.

I've read The Count of Monte Cristo at least twice. Someday I'll get around to rereading the whole of Dumas' Musketeer cycle, but somehow I just keep not doing it. The Palliser novels will probably never be reread, though...(I mention them only because I'm currently reading the last of that series.)

That's a very good way to sort books for a move - I find it very hard to get rid of a book but they're so heavy to move! ;)

I think Monte Cristo is my favorite of Dumas. I like the Musketeer stories very much as well, but there's just something about Monte Cristo I love! Probably the just deserts of the villains, haha.

I've never read the Palliser novels - I watched a very little bit of the 1970s BBC adaptation of it, and may have dozed off (it was fairly late at night)...and just never went back to it. Oops.

The Pallisers are not exactly exciting. They're not bad, but they're not exciting. At least the move better than the Barsetshire novels. I'm not sure why I keep reading Trollope, but I do.

Dumas, on the other hand, is always interesting. I think I've liked pretty much everything I've read by him. I don't suppose I'll reread La Reine Margot or George or the Journal of Mme. Giovanni, but they were enjoyable enough.

It's easy to get rid of a book that was bad but hard to get rid of one when it was good.

I LOVE that book! As well as the Musketeer books. I reread it every few years just because I need to. :-)

Hooray for another Monte Cristo fan! I think the length puts a lot of people off, same with the Musketeers...but they're so good!

Totally! I know the books are long but they are so descriptive and juicy! It's like you can see every room and every dress and every character.
I think I'll go start Iron Mask right now!
