Actually I was fairly good last night, after spending hours and hours on the internet (HAD TO CATCH UP!), I worked out most of the maths for my dress. Tucks regrettably take maths, you know. jenthompson sent me a similar pattern to the Past Patterns one I'm copying (without the pattern, hurr), which was extremely helpful! There are some differences, mainly the position of the waist, but it really helped my tiny brain to see those pattern shapes!
I was actually all ready to start cutting, when I remembered I hadn't washed any of my fabric. Oh dammit. So I pushed that off til today, and sewed some flowers on my hat instead!
I'm not 100% pleased with the shape of the hat - I looked at a lot of 20s hats to see what I should look for! - but it does have the round top of the crown, isn't paper straw (have I mentioned I have an unreasonable dislike of paper straw?), and was under $20. And is light-colored! I was really set on a light-colored straw hat! Well, this isn't straw, it's actually linen - but that works too. And the band around the crown even conveniently matches my shoes, which are brown.
So I just sewed a bunch of fakey-fake "silk" roses and leaves on the side, and called it Done. For some reason they felt the need to glue the grosgrain to the hat so I was sewing through glue...thanks guys. And somehow the whole bunch managed to travel a bit south of where I intended to put it - but that's really nit-picking!
And now I have to go iron my fabric so I can at least get the basic dress cut out tonight!
