New plan!

Because this is already the year of the Unfinished Things, so who cares if I add another one?

(Besides the bin of Things, which will very much resent a bustle skirt being stuffed in!)

I'm just not feeling the new pink bustle dress. I was good today! I basted the skirt to the waistband, fiddled with the bustle, messed with the petticoats, and tried it all on, and marked the hem. And even stuck on some trim possiblilies, all of which I hated, btw. Hate the velvet ribbon, hate the pink shantung, dislike the black lace. Self trim is probably the way to go, as I started out with a 15-yard roll of the stuff.

So. I'm thinking bustle's not really my thing. (I did say that about Regency at one point, I know.) At the moment anyway. I have one bustle dress, so far appropriate for all occasions I need bustle-era somethings for! It's been too long since I made anything 18thc.

Not that that's what I'm going to do now, either. Going to clean up all the bustle-related crap strewn around, and finish and/or start my late 16thc jacket and kirtle for the Ren Faire.

...unless no-one wants to go any more, in which case plase do tell me and I'll make my 1780s curtain dress instead! *smirk*

So...I pleated the base skirt to the waistband tonight. All was going swimmingly, until I decided to actually try it on over bustle and petticoat. Looked at it in the mirror, and...the bustle looks deflated. Lame. Kind of...flat. (Tried to take a picture, but couldn't find room anywhere. I need a sewing space!)

I don't know, maybe the weight of a lined skirt is just too much for it? (What would it do with a velvet skirt; perish the thought!) What the hell, hoop steels? Whatever it is, I am not terribly pleased. The skirt is not being taken apart, so I'm going to have to think about what to do to Deal With This. May have to think about making a new bustle.

Couldn't just have an easy project, oh no! I'm going back to the 18th century...just kidding. Probably.

I cut out all the pieces for the underskirt and sewed them together today.

So I guess that means I'm making it, then? *grin*

I was supremely industrious and decided to line the entire skirt; believe me, this is a feat! I hate fully lining skirts. The shot cotton's fairly lightweight, though, so it really needed it. I used some polished cotton (also pink) that I just happened to have thirteen or so yards of laying around.

Not exciting enough yet for a picture, but I like how it looks so far! The fabric, I mean...I had my doubts about it, because it looks kind of lame up close, but at a distance of a couple feet it looks fine.

Does this mean it's too late to sew a few boring eyelets on the Pennsbury stays? SIGH. I guess not...

That new Victorian dress I wasn't going to make for next month?

Something like this dress on the left?

Out of this pink shot cotton (that I have fifteen yards of) trimmed with black velvet ribbon?

Yeah, totally not happening.

That's why I made a tag and an icon, right?
