The petticoats and corset, as previously mentioned, are FINISHED. *falls over promptly yet again in surprise*

People, I sewed something! Yay!

Really, I sewed a waistband, as the rest of it was done, but at least it's something.

Something. )

Thanksgiving dinner at our house can be considered a success, I believe. Nothing exploded in the oven, and none of my cousins tried to strangle each other. I didn't do any of the cooking, but I did all the dishes. Twelve people, a lot of dishes. And no, we don't have a dishwasher. Correction: we do. It's the same one that was there when we moved into this house fifteen years ago, and it didn't work then. Doesn't work now, either! My family's pretty much all batshit crazy...but now you know where it comes from! *grin*

Highlights:
~ Cousin S put his elbow in his coffee and managed to get it on half the table and himself.
~ No alcohol, because Aunt S-H is sort of trying to stop being an alcoholic. (I had a gin & tonic after they left.)
~ There was an argument between my stepfather and mother as to whether she had put out too much cream with the coffee, and whether it mattered that we had a sugar bowl that matched the set or not.
~ Cousin M sat on me half the night. (These cousins are all younger than I am, by the way...)
~ Grandma's kind of going deaf, so she kept passing people the wrong dishes. Example: Lil Sis: Pass the gravy? Grandma: Here you go. *hands over the green bean casserole*
~ Our cat bit Cousin A. But he probably deserved it.
~ The word of the night between Mom and Aunt S was "glutenous," because somebody made fun of Aunt S's mashed potatoes and called them glutenous...so every once in a while, one of them would say, "Glutenous!" and make meaningful gestures in the general direction of the potatoes, and both of them would dissolve in giggles.
~ Grandma's apparently not the only one going deaf...as after dinner, they put on The Game (whatever football game was on. I neither knew nor cared) and I SWEAR the neighbors could hear a play-by-play.
~ Grandma kept saying that my boy-cousins need haircuts. It made me giggle. A commercial for the Beatles on iTunes came on, and she said, "I remember when they first came over here...I thought, Well, they need haircuts!" That really made me giggle!

In sewing news, I've finished sewing the cording in the petticoat. Twenty-four rows. Now I just need to put a waistband on...I'd like to finish it by the first of December, but I've only one day off work between now and then, and I'm going spend most of it recovering from a night out with two of my best friends. So...we'll see about that. I'm sure tomorrow, after working eight and a half hours on Black Friday, I'll totally feel like sewing. Or...not.

And That Book [livejournal.com profile] padawansguide has recommended to me (more than once, because I'm a slacker)...bought it. And a couple other ones too. I Like Books. And, um, it's, like, almost Black Friday so they could have been on sale! (They weren't.)

Sixteen rows done, which puts the cording up to about knee-height. More, more! Yawn. But not tonight. Lord, this is the most boring project to post about ever...no pictures, just, "And then I sewed another row of cording..."

And I can't wait to see how much the thing weighs when it's done, it's already pretty heavy. Seriously, no wonder the crinoline was invented; this outfit may win my Most Impractical Costume award when it's done! Just for the sheer amount of fabric in all the skirts...after the corded petticoat I'm planning on two more cotton petticoats to try and get the proper shape for mid-1840s. We shall see exactly how many are needed as I go along!

Quick post before I go see Harry Potter with the TCNJ Group.

Corded petticoat is up to ten rows. It takes me forever because I iron it after sewing each row of cording, because...I don't know, I like to get on my own nerves. Toasted two of my fingers on the iron today, yay me.Not certain how many rows I'll end up with. I want to put as many in as possible...or as many as I can stand, anyway. I'm going to run out of hemp cording, though; this ball was half-finished when I started making the petticoat.

Watched A Hard Day's Night today and sewed another row of cord into the corset. I think I'm going to be heartily sick of cording things by the time this is all over!

Hey, I actually Sewed Things today! Told you I would. (Yes, I'm surprised too.) When I wasn't at the historical society, watching the longest tour ever. And no, not done the training yet. Gotta watch another group, and give a tour to one of the directors first. Then can I wear silly clothes and give tours?

But I did come home and sew, for hours and hours on the 1844 corset. I decided, when first making it ages ago, that the cording on the seams needed to be put in by hand. And this takes OMFG FOREVER. I got three sewn, I think, this afternoon and evening. Not good for instant gratification. But I really gotta stop bouncing around to a million projects, or I'll never finish the 1840s undies so I can make the dress.

The undies...aha! Light-bulb! I can start the corded petticoat!

So I did! Instant gratification! Well...okay, not quite instant. I've got two rows of cording sewn in. Still, a little more instant than the corset! Which I will have to finish eventually, I know. I'm using the totally not printed, what? ivory linen I just got for the petticoat, so that's one less thing to try and fit in the Stash. Always a good thing.

Also: I just ate a block of cheese. To add to the "accomplished" mood. Om nom nom. (Can't understand what Keef's got against it...Cheese, not accomplishment.)
