More fabric-buying
Apr. 19th, 2020 10:57 pmAlso I believe I neglected to mention that I did order the wool for the 1930s Ravenclaw - the blue and tan houndstooth is just what I wanted, the challis in "spice" turned out to be way more orange than it looked on the website, oops. I am a big fan of navy and orange together, actually, but orange is not quite so Ravenclaw. I thought about sending it back for about half a second, but there's no point in paying to send back one yard of fabric! Besides, I do like it, just not for this.
Renaissance Fabrics has since gotten in a couple more "brown-ish" options in that challis, so tonight I bought a yard of "rust" and a yard of "brown" and we'll see which one I end up using!
Which is very extravagant of me, but every time I bother to get swatches from them they end up selling out of the actual yardage I want! I definitely have more than one vintage blouse pattern I could make up with a yard of challis, so, whatever, let's be extravagant!
This post brought to you by the arrival of my American Duchess shoe order yesterday: I bought the on-sale Hepburns (because cute, on sale, and I like having low heels in my shoe stable too) and the not-on-sale Claires, because I wanted them to wear with the 1930s Ravenclaw! (Originally I was planning on getting the Alices, but I dithered about it too long and they sold out of my size before they even moved the Royal Vintage brand over to AD. That's what I get for dithering!)
Super cute. Need to get the non-skid rubber thingies to put on the bottoms before I take them out for a stroll as all the newer styles have leather soles, and I highly dislike leather soles for street wear. (Yeah, I get they're for people who use them for dancing, but I'd like to be able to wear them on the tile floors at school without killing myself, to say nothing of not wanting to eat asphalt crossing a busy street...)
