I was yanking out a very firmly rooted attempt at a maple tree, and when it gave, I fell back on my butt onto a stump. There is no doubt in my mind that I'm going to have a bruised ass tomorrow. (Yes, you can laugh, I am.) Damn nature!

1950s print voile dress: 6 skirt panels have been turned into 3. Progress! I also tried on the bodice mockup (partly to avoid doing something else), and, shockingly, it fit very well. This doesn't generally happen right out of the pattern envelope. I will say, though, that the line drawings (and the pattern description) show it as slightly off-the-shoulder. Nope, that is very decidedly on my shoulder, thanks. Still cute, but I did want the look of the line drawing, so I just tweaked the angle of the shoulder seam and called it good enough.

Event at the Indian King tomorrow - not one in which I feature heavily, but two of the gang are coming over to crash it anyway - so I dunno what sewing I'll get done tomorrow. I'll just enjoy it not being anywhere near 90F, thank you very much. Silk dress time! Hm, should iron that...nah, I'll do that tomorrow morning. ;)

I ended up doing some planting today - mom bought a flat of marigolds the other day, and I finally remembered that planting them was a thing I should do - so that took a chunk of my free time! I did get half of the 1940 dress for the air show cut out, though? And then I remembered that I want a new dress to wear to the opera weekend after this...so, uh, I should probably get on that!

Well, I ended up spending most of the day outside, between walking a package to the post office, and messing about with plant-things. Might as well enjoy spring weather while it's here, right? I planted a coleus that's been in a pot inside for the past year and a half, and has reached a completely ridiculous size to have indoors. I don't care if it dies later (or sooner), I just feel wildly guilty about throwing out a houseplant that isn't totally dead!

Also spent some time dealing with the completely insane rosebush that decided it was going to sprout directly next to the front steps. I have no idea where it came from, and could have sworn it wasn't there last year...except that it must have been, to have gotten to this size. Had a very enjoyable time getting scratched while tying it back (if only my gardening gloves went to the shoulder...), and dug another extremely random rose sprout out of the lawn, so I could replant it in a place it's less likely to get, you know, lawn-mowed. (Where are these things coming from?! The rose fairy?)

I did paint the heel of my 1790s shoes - I was going to paint the heel in contrast and cover the shoe in fabric (and it seemed wiser to do it in that order)...but I may have decided to buy more textile paint and just paint the damn thing. So much easier! It's satin, so it looks fairly legit when painted. I'll have to do a white base first, as it's a very, uh, vigorous print that I need to cover...the black heel was fine with two coats but I don't think a lighter color will be.

More dirt-digging today, and that should be about it, for now. (Except for that stump in the front flower bed.)

Also cut out the pattern pieces for a 1930s Vintage Vogue pattern - if I feel so inclined this week, I might like a new dress for Easter. Will use the rayon print I got last week, because it really wants to be a 30s dress! Hopefully it won't be too cold to wear it...

All I have left to do on the striped linen gown is the hem, the pocket slits, and the loopies to wear it polonaised, but do I want to do that right now? Nope. I was up early this morning to dig around in the dirt in the backyard (we're trying a bit of a garden this year, and I cleared out a respectable square of the backyard for it), and I am tired. I'd rather natter on about some costumey things in the works!

First, my 19-teens outfit for the Winterthur outing next month. The general plan is for a matching skirt and jacket, and a Fun Print Blouse, just in case the jacket doesn't get finished in time! I just needed to get a nice blouse fabric, since I've got plenty of wool in the Stash.

And then there's my Costume Roulette outfit, which I haven't yet posted anything about, so I need to explain that!

An outfit I *really* don't need yet! )
