mandie_rw: (late 1830s couple)
Okay, so not a terribly sew-ish weekend! I got both my Silk Baron package and my Redthreaded package in the mail and gleefully petted both of them. Pics of the silk with the print soon, along with a quick review of the corset, probably less soon (in short, I love it and it fits remarkably well for something off-the-rack, lucky me!).

I did spend a couple of hours sewing on Saturday before the concert - I had many Good Intentions of actually starting to make a hat to go with the sprigged print outfit, just one of those little soft-crown numbers. I actually cut out and sewed together TWO buckram brims while I was at it (I also want a Deliberately Plain Bonnet to go with the c1800 squiggle print outfit, if I ever finish that item)...and then was stymied by a lack of millinery wire. I really thought I had a little bit lift, at least enough for one brim. No. Dammit.

So I got as far as pinning on the strips of bias to finish the armscyes on the bodiced petticoat of the sprigged outfit. Progress?

The concert at Laurel Hill that I mentioned in my last post was a good call! Other than starting late and finishing long enough after sunset that to use the port-a-potties would have really been taking your life in your hands, it was a lovely time! I'd never seen a Theremin played in person before - and, well, I didn't really see it this time either, as we weren't very close to the "stage" and the player was mostly behind a pillar in our sight line...but still very cool! And it's just a wonderful setting...if you like old cemeteries, anyway. ;)

(Apparently Tom's dad thinks it's a little weird that we go on dates to cemeteries LOL.)
