New Castle's "Spirit of Christmas" has always been a fun little event for us - very low pressure - and this year was no different! Neither Robin nor I made anything new, but it was enjoyable anyway! (All of these are pictures from other people...I didn't take any, because it's a very old outfit, so why bother? but then decided I should post about it here, so went back and stole everybody else's.)
I wasn't originally planning to go, but then Robin bought two tickets to the ball and reserved a room at the B&B in town and said, "I'd rather take you than my husband, consider it your Christmas present," so I did. xD Rewore the cream poplin late 1830s dress for the umpteenth time, but I do like that dress. I tacked the gathered lace band from the red ballgown into the neckline, and I think it actually works nicely as an evening dress, if not a ball gown. Standards at that ball are not that high...

I hasten to assure you that everyone I knew personally at the ball was well-dressed, though.

It was actually COLD for the first time in years for this event weekend - we had highs in the mid-30s all weekend, so I actually got a chance to drag out the winter-wear for this one. Robin borrowed my Big Furry Poncho and I wore my Joann's Red Tag Table Special, which is shedding marabou bits at an alarming rate (of course both mantles are velvet...). My fur muff could not be located (it's not in the bin of outerwear so ...???) but my gloves are fur-lined, so I was nice and toasty! Only my feet ended up getting cold by mid-afternoon, haha.

Since Robin and I stayed in town from Friday night into Saturday, we had a relatively leisurely morning of getting ready before everyone else showed up, and had breakfast and tea at a very cute, very small cafe two doors down from the B&B. Once the others showed up, we tootled around the shops, the market, took a self-guided aka half-assed tour of the historic courthouse, and made our lunch reservation in a timely fashion. I ordered the shepherd's pie the size of my head for old times' sake...hey, it's a tasty tradition!
After a little more wandering (and being asked eighty-seven times if we were going to sing - NO), we wrapped it up around mid-afternoon. Nothing earth-shattering about this event, but Old New Castle is a very cute historic area and it's a nice "getting into the holiday spirit" event. Especially when it actually feels like winter!
