bonneting and new neckwear

With my last week of vacation marching steadily away, I'm increasingly suspecting that that new linen dress for Robin's picnic won't get made!
She says, as if somebody else is responsible for it and she's just an interested bystander...
Which is fine, really - technically it doesn't even add to the UFOs because it was already a UFO heh heh heh.
And I did fix up my lavender bonnet yesterday, which was the only thing on the Must Do list! It got a little squashed in storage (I made it for daywear for our 2019 Young Victoria Dinner), and Pip chewed off some of the paper flowers/stalks when I let it sit out for a while. Oh, cats. That's on me though, they seemed like perfect cat toys LOL! I also discovered I hadn't actually lined it when I pulled it out yesterday.
So, accomplished all those fixin's! Mostly. There's a limited amount steaming can help a slightly squooshed buckram crown! I dutifully steamed and wrangled, and it does look better if not perfect. Definitely helped the brim, anyway, and I won't put it back in the box until after the picnic! Wrapped it in muslin and put it on top of the sewing room bookshelf instead.
Also removed the chewed-on paper flowers (bit of a shame, I liked them!) and replaced them with some other spring floral sprigs from the Hat Crap Stash, and they're fine too. Also definitely cat toys LOL. Hence the wrapped in muslin and hidden as well as possible from cats.
And then lined the inside of the crown! With much stabbing and grumbling and cussing, because that is not a fun angle to sew. But it's now lined, so less likely to eat hair when I take it off. xD

Maybe a little more summery than September would call for, but I know it'll still feel like summer in mid-September so a summer bonnet is called for, IMO!

The flowers are funny up close - they're little foam coils, not paper! Not exactly period correct, but I'm not that fussy with my floral trimmings; as long as there's no great honkin' plastic bits immediately visible, you get what you get with clearance floral, yanno?
Hideous bonnet lining. It's on a head (most of the time), who cares.

And now I'm ready for the picnic! Technically, which is the best kind of ready.
I think I'm going to try and make some new neckwear as well - I've always worn a chemisette with this dress - which is perfectly fine, I have a couple! - but I think I'd like to switch it up. I was kicking around the idea of making a matching pelerine out of the poplin to accessorize - lord knows I have enough, there's at least 5 yards left of that stuff, I bought a ton of it when it went clearance at Joanns - and matching pelerines/small cape-y things seem to have been pretty popular in the late 30s into the 40s (I didn't even link all the surviving ones!). But, again, the whole "summer" thing...it's just cotton, but it's a reasonably substantial poplin, so...I think not.
There are, however, tons and tons of lightweight frou-frou whitework pelerines and fichus and capelets and whatnot as well, which seems more appropriate for the weather! I'm not completely insane so I'm not considering trying any embroidery, but I think a nice voile piece trimmed with lace would be reasonable to finish by the 16th! I've been more in the mood for handwork lately (spent my weekend couch time doing cross stitch), so maybe I'll actually work on it, ho ho ho.
I've decided to base it most closely on this piece although with more rounded front points like I saw on a couple other pieces! I like the double border of lace and I think I have enough lace stashed to find some things that will work for it. In the closeups on the website I think the fold-over collar is a separate piece, but since you can also fold over the bias edge of a fichu and get a similar effect, I'm not going to bother messing with a separate collar and figuring out the shape, etc. Means the lace will be wrong side up when it's folded back, but NBD.
And I actually cut it out yesterday (with pulled threads, which was heinous), so once I stop dicking around online I'll start working on it! xD
