I bought faaaaaaaabric.
I did threaten to, on IG. I wasn't kidding.
SilkBaron and their horrible, awful temptation every time they come out with new colors of taffeta! This one, I sat on for a few days and decided I really couldn't resist.
I've wanted to make a new sack-back 18thc gown for a good few years now - really since I sold off my old one. I have a half-finished silk brocade sack that's been in the UFO bin for...probably going on eight years now...that's really not a great representation of my skills any more, so I haven't ever wanted to go back and finish that off. (I should probably cannibalize it for the fabric. That'd be period!) Plus I didn't have enough yardage to trim the damn thing, so I was always stuck on that.
So, short story long, I've wanted a new, 1750s-60s sack gown for quite a while but never really had a reason - we very rarely do Fancy 18thc any more, and when we do it's last-quarter of the century. But hey, with the whole 'rona and no-events thing...what the hell, why not.
COME TO MAMA

I took a little bit of a chance, buying a sack-length without swatching it, as I do sometimes find their site pics to be a bit off (albeit in the reasonable range, not like FFC's nonsense!), but as long as it's in that "madder red" range, I'll be thrilled to bits with it. I'd really like to have it done some time in the spring, to get Pretty Spring Pictures in it, but as 1/ I have no due date on this, and 2/ I'd really like to also make a pair of c1760 stays for it...
So, who knows when I'll actually make this, but hey, at least I know I'll have the fabric in my hot little hands soon!

Date: 2021-01-21 04:10 pm (UTC)I have Silk Baron open in my many Chrome tabs. I'm expecting a gift card soon-ish and I fully intend to buy some pretty fabric for a Circassienne and live my turquoise and coral dreams.
