Can safely report that the TV 1898 walking skirt does NOT take 5 yards, unless there is a snag in the space-time continuum of my wool. Started with 5 yards (could be a little more, as FFC's fairly generous with their yards), cut out the skirt, and still have well over 2 yards left!

Yes, I cut a smaller than average size, yes I disregarded both nap and pattern matching (there is no nap, and the checks are small enough scale that I really DGAF about trying to line them up)...but 5 yards still seems EXTREMELY generous! Just sayin'!

So...skirt's cut out? I'm going to be good and hand-baste the lining and wool together, because this is drapey lightweight wool and I know it'll creep if I don't do it! Save me large amounts of annoyance later.

Of course, having a much larger than anticipated amount of wool left for the jacket actually makes me less sure of what I want to make now...I was thinking jacket because it'd take less fabric, but now that a full bodice is an option I don't know which I want!

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if I could make both...with careful cutting. Hmmmmmmm...*rubs hands together gleefully*

Well, either way, I'll make the skirt first!

5 yards makes sense to me for a nap layout, but most fabrics can do without! Yay for stingy cutting!
