I followed the directions very carefully, too! Grumble. These pockets are total dogshit, man. Unacceptable for a garment to be worn in public! Will have to try Take Two on Monday since I'm busy most of tomorrow.

welt 1

The face fabric ends up an inch shorter than the interlining with that bubble! That's...not gonna fly here. Especially as I'm now supposed to baste them together at the next step. Hahaha but...they don't match any more.
welt 2

My Couture Sewing Techniques book has the steps to make this kind of pocket in a different order than the steps in the pattern, so I'll have to try that next, because NOPE NOPE NOPE.

*gives welt pockets the finger*

Just took a look at Shaeffer's instructions and they made me panic a little:) I basically use the method in "Tailoring, The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket." I'm sure there are plenty of good welt pocket instructions to be found out there, but that particular book has nice, glossy photos illustrating the whole process.

Like with everything, there is more than one way to sew them. And I've redrafted every commercial pattern I've ever used in order to do my preferred method. I even do mine slightly differently than that book since I don't do the pocket lining as a separate step. Still, it's a really nice book to have on hand for many reasons.

Welt pockets are deserving of the finger.

UGH! SO frustrating! I hope that Take 2 is much more successful!

The Claire Schaeffer book? I have that one too and am going to use it to construct my blazer. I was considering welt pockets for that, but got scared and decided on patch ones instead.

Welt pockets - the horror! My greatest fear happened once on a waistcoat; when clipping the rectangle, cut across the stitching and into the front. Gahh! Even the faux welts are not favored.
