Hello there, peeps! I ought to be making a powerpoint for tomorrow's lesson, but I insist on distracting myself on here first, so nyah. It's been a while since I've really had any fun costume brainstorming, so I'm going to enjoy it for a bit while I can!

To console herself for the loss of having me to chat with everyday (I'm totally 100% the reason...egotistical much? ;) ), [personal profile] robinsnest  dreamed up an 1830s dinner party, which very quickly turned into an actual Thing That We're Doing - like, we've got the date reserved at an historic inn in the Philly area next April, an official event page on FB, and have expanded the dinner into a picnic in the afternoon too. Obviously I have no time to sew now, but...

Plan? Yeah, a bit!

I like to think I'll make new stuff for this, but honestly I have a late 30s day dress and a ball gown I'm perfectly satisfied with (yes it's a dinner not a ball but let's not split hairs here), and...I now have someone else to dress. Imaginary Boyfriend and I have been together just about a year now, and he's said multiple times that he's perfectly happy to come to costume events with me (I just have to dress him, as he's very concerned about wearing something that's slightly wrong), and I now feel confident enough in this relationship that I can sink hours and hours into sewing for someone that isn't me!

I mean...I'm not planning on hand sewing everything, but I have standards, you know.

After a few hours total of Pinterest research over the past week or so: boy clothes are more complicated than they first appear! *squints* I'm going to pretend for the time being that I am going to be able to make completely different outfits for day and evening (I am aware this will 99% likely not be the case, but shhhh), and I should be able to get most, if not all of it from the stash. The infamous stockpile of navy wool will finally be put to some use!

I have very little spending money at the moment but I think I'm going to get some of the Black Snail patterns from etsy; they seem to have favorable reviews, they're right in that early Victorian time period I want (which has very little in the way of patterns compared to men's Regency or later Victorian), they're on sale right now...and I can use my Rutgers print allowance to print the PDF's out at school if I do it before Dec. 14th! (At the very least, the shirt, waistcoat, and trousers patterns - I'm aware that I could probably figure out 2/3 of those myself, but...why should I?)

And then tell IB to buy a roll of tape and get his butt over here and make himself useful. ;)

But seriously...he's at least getting plaid trousers for daytime because how can I resist that? (Plaid has already been ok'd by the intended victim, so we're good.)
