Downton chatter

I did precisely zero sewing today, so let's talk about the latest episode of Downton! (Or, you know, I'll talk about it and chuckle to myself; that's fine too.)
And yes, I'm watching them as they air in the US, so don't tell me anything! We're up to That Dinner Party (Jesus Christ).
I particularly enjoyed this Vanity Fair piece about the making of that scene. Poor innocent gold dress, what had it ever done to anybody...no wonder Elizabeth McGovern looked so shocked, hahaha. BLOOD ERRYWHAR THANKS HUGH. Really glad I hadn't heard anything about it before watching the episode - definitely had quite an impact, and more so with the element of surprise!
(I've heard some mutter around the internet about the Bam!GoreOnDownton, but frankly Fellowes has so much action in this show happen off-screen I was thrilled that after episodes of "oooh, my indegestion" from Lord G, we actually got payoff, and didn't cut to everyone in the hall meebling about Lord G's ulcer bursting at the dinner table, oh my. But gore's not that awful to me...we got to see a full-on leg amputation on Mercy Street this week - "and now we peel back the muscle like the cuff of a coat" YES YOU DO APPEAR TO BE DOING JUST THAT - so just spewing blood all over the dinner table is small potatoes in comparison!)
And I was also surprised at how much I didn't want him to die there on the dining room floor...Lord G has had his share of being a dumbass (see: macking on that maid, any and all Ponzi schemes in which he loses the family fortune several times, etc), but I apparently will be quite sad if he dies! Nooooo, not Donk!
Perfectly happy to sacrifice Daisy to the gods if someone has to die for the Last Season, though...have her get run over by a lorry or something. She is so incredibly irritating.
Guys, I love Matthew Goode, but his Henry Talbot is not doing it for me in regards to being Mary's ultimate love interest. Obviously he's fun to flirt with, and I love seeing Mary being sassy with her men, but It is just not there. I'd honestly rather have her dedicate herself to the estate completely and end up with no one at this point, that is how hard they are failing as a couple for me. But I still want Charles Blake to randomly show up, so I'm not exactly objective. He saves pigs! He's her social equal (going to inherit something of somewhere, I think I remember)! He goes on illegal escapades for lost letters! He's got the best sense of humor out of any of her suitors! Come back from Poland, Charles Blake! Sigh. Oh well.
Please just let Edith be happy, Julian Fellowes. I've always been on Team Mary and have no patience with Sad Sack Edith, but she's started being much more assertive since she started paying attention to the magazine, and is much less of a sad sack...she's got something to do, she's got a nice guy interested in her, and her evening dresses are excellent. If I hear any more about the Pig Farmer/Marigold bullshit, though, I will revoke my sympathy!
Downstairs: we already covered Daisy. I sort of miss EvilButler.com, but I would also like for Thomas to not get tossed out on his ass if they ever do the staff downsizing they keep threatening. Rob James-Collier has beein blinding me for six seasons, though - if Thomas was played by an ugly dude I wouldn't care about him half as much!
Mrs Hughes and Carson are already married, let them be happy; Mrs Patmore and Mr Mason should end up together; frankly I don't care about the Bateses very much any more except to hope their lives go smoothly because they get on my nerves SO much when they are in conflict.
...well apparently I have a lot of feelings about my soap opera. FEELINGS!
