I am so good at distracting myself

I had all good intentions of working on a hat for the shop! And finishing my novelty christmas print dress! And finishing the hem on a fichu for the IKT! And of course I did none of those things!

Because I woke up before my alarm this morning, and thought, I SHOULD TRY MAKING FLY FRINGE. (This is tangentially related to the perpetually-unfinished floral brocade sacque.) So, I did. I don't have any silk floss on hand (and wouldn't waste it if I did), so I practiced with mostly DMC and made up some truly hideous samples this afternoon.

And I have discovered, it's really not hard. Literally just loops and knots and snipping a few of those loops. Requires some planning ahead, if you want a complicated one, but actually making it isn't hard. Knots! Even I can tie knots! Slightly terrifying to think how long it'll take to make enough for a dress, but, hey I'll probably get faster with practice! Probably.

There's a needlepoint shop over in Philly that sells all manner of floss, so I'll try over there first to see if they have an appropriately flat one for the fringe before I go shopping online. Probably in the next week or so, if I can hoist my butt over there in a timely fashion...
