As I wasn't able to spend large amounts of money on Amazon on other people, I decided to spend even larger amounts on myself in consolation. Except not really, because I ordered the fabric before going on Amazon, but whatever. I was not going to order this fabric until after the semester's over, and I see how I did, grade-wise, but this fabric is Super-Perfect, and I haven't found it anywhere else, so if they ran out of it and didn't order more, I'd be out of luck... (Rationalizing, you gets it here!)
Anyhow, I ordered enough of this taffeta to make a sack back gown. (And, yes, the price of that set me back considerably!) I probably won't be starting this any time soon, because I want to practice by making a sack back jacket withcheaper fabric I already have. Screwing up $16/yd silk taffeta is not my idea of a fun time. And making pocket hoops might also be a good idea, seeing as I don't actually have any.
Also, I think I've decided that when I do start this gown, it'll be a Sooper-Seekrit Projekt...except only kinda-sorta, because I already told you all what it was going to be. Well then, I won't show you pictures of it until it's done...oh, damn, I hardly ever do that anyway. Well...*ponders* I don't care; I wants a Sooper-Seekrit Projekt, dammit!
It's okay, we can all pretend together.
And, factoring in the kinda-sorta Sooper-Seekrit Projekt, I am finding I have definite leanings toward the 18th century for The Upcoming Year in Sewing Plans. I have many evil plans for the year...I shall mull them over some more, because they keep changing (and anything you post on LJ is automatically set in stone...?...no, I don't know why I feel like that), but I will let The World In General know when I've decided on The List For Next Year. (Which I always love to make, and then always love to change around about a million times over the next twelve months, so I don't know why I bother, except that it's fun.)
Much later edit: Okay, fine, it's the dress in Mme de Pompadour's famous portrait, since I can't keep a secret worth a damn -- in regards to costuming, anyhow. And I'm still terrified to actually make the thing, a year and a half later. Ridiculous.
