Took time out today to do more boring alterations for money (you can't sew on a button yourself? Really really?)...I tend to feel slightly guilty when she's already paid me and I have a bag of her things to do...and I'm sewing for myself. (Only slightly, though.) So I got about half of them out of the way.

And then proceeded to make another apron. I bought a remnant of checked blue linen along with my box o'silk for bonnet-ing, intending to have an apron be one of my sewing projects For The Public tomorrow...but when I got the package yesterday, I decided it would be much better to wear it. Right? Right. So...that's done, apart from the last few inches I'm sewing right now. I've got two caps and a pair of linen mitts cut out; that will be more than enough to keep me occupied for 4-ish hours of sewing!

Amusingly, the forecast for tomorrow isn't actually Godawfully Hot enough to really require my unlined cotton jacket - high of 80. Hmm hmm. Dunno if I'll have another opportunity to wear it, though, as nobody wants to come to the battle of Monmouth with me, and I don't think I have another 18thc event this summer. HMM.

HA. I bet you'd eventually be able to find one of me floating out there on the interwebz! If these selfish bastards ever post them anywhere, that is.

Have fun, does that site have you volunteering other days this summer? You could wear it then. Or wear it tomorrow, with all the layers, I doubt you'd be cold.

They do, actually! I didn't realize they had a 4th of July open house...so it will definitely get worn then! I did end up being glad I wore the cotton jacket though, as I spent a good amount of time upstairs in the tavern, and it was SO hot.

Hah! I'm a costumer and I won't sew a mundane button on for myself. If it's not a costume, I am absolutely uninterested in sewing it. (Fortunately, I typically wear over the head or zip up dresses mundanely, so few buttons to pop off).

To be fair, buttons are so unexciting to sew on. :D At least I'll eventually get this poor woman's things back to her...my own mending NEVER gets done. I've had socks in the mending pile for at least six months now! They're gathering dust!

Agreed! But I don't even keep a repair pile anymore. I know I don't do it, so no point in pretending. I'm even encouraging my mother to give up her repair pile and get rid of the stuff. She's never going to do it and it's taking up space for "real" sewing in our house!

Sewing for money sucks-- but money doesn't suck. GET PAID!
