Well, I took four pictures - sorry to anyone who likes to live vicariously through my posts! I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] quincy134's got tons, though. ;) Just for proof that I did indeed show up, and that [livejournal.com profile] hiraimi wore her butt-fluffle jacket. ([livejournal.com profile] dragoneyes19 wanted proof.)

I love Fort Fred, even though I never buy much; this year I came home with two cakes of beeswax for sewing and a pair of black silk stockings. (And a pair of ivory silk stockings to pay Alice back for FD gas and tolls, but those didn't actually come home with me!) It's just fun to see so many people in 18thc clothes, see friends, and to pet all the pretty fabrics. I very nearly bought some wonderfully soft black wool for my 1860s Rational Dress, but stopped myself because I really do want hunter green. And I am absolutely out of room in the Stash Space, especially for lengths of fat wools with no upcoming project in mind! Also saw [livejournal.com profile] heidilea for the first time in ages, which was great! (She gradually keeps moving further and further away, though, which I assume means the next time I see her will be in 2022 or something...)

Weather was definitely on the chilly side..."I don't need my cloak!...Yes I do!" so I'm kinda glad I didn't finish the Brunswick, as I would have felt obligated to wear it, and would then have been cold and therefore cranky most of the day. Wool FTW. Personally I prefer chilly over hot, 'specially in costume.

And I got a nice ego boost, as two girls came up to me and told me they read my blog and were super excited to meet me. [livejournal.com profile] mandie_rw: inspiring high schoolers everywhere! *snort* Well, three of them, so far, LOL. (And my blogger blog, which is marginally more professional-sounding, not LJ, though I did tell them to Totally Join LJ, We're Awesome Here.) This is a rare-enough occurrance that I'm still tickled by it, so bear with me here. :D And they were very well put-together, so at least I'm inspiring hand-sewn jackets, and not, like, Ye Olde Wench Bodices or something.

After Fort Fred, a bunch of us went out for dinner, and then Erin, Alice, Jessica and I went back to our hotel room and overdosed on sugar while watching Star Trek on tv: candy and champagne for all! And then were in bed by ten-thirty, because we party hard.

Erin had to leave very early, and Jessica drove straight home after breakfast at the hotel (unexciting but sufficient, although I overtoasted my bagel beyond repair because the arrow on the toaster dial was worn off, boo), but Alice and I stopped off at a closing fabric store and a flea market since they were on the way home anyway. PA Fabric Outlet had no good fabric left, but still tons and tons of trim and ribbon. And I guess that I've been sewing long enough and accumulated enough stuff that all I bought was some nice soft twill tape and three boxes of hooks. Unexciting but functional. And at the flea market I got a few bits and pieces of antique lace - though I did see some late-Victorian button boots that, if they'd been in wearable condition, I absolutely would have sprung for! I don't need to add unwearable shoes to my collection of crap, though.

And that was my weekend!

Hooray I didn't wear my poor-people-shoes! Though I think they're actually be more comfortable to wear all day. Hmm. (I love the color of the Fuguawee Cheris, but I don't super want a tied shoe. Have been thinking about a natural-colored Connie for a while, but I'm also pre-ordering the AD Dunmores, and how many 18thc shoes do I really need?? Answer: ALL the 18thc shoes, clearly.)

Check out my fabulously unevenly pinned stomacher! I was in fact completely sober while dressing, although you'd never know! That's really terrible looking! Also, I did try to wear as many different colors as possible at one time. Purposely. Pink shoes, blue stockings, red petticoat, cream jacket, brown mitts, checked fichu, and orange and green ribbons on the hat.

And Alice's jacket of butt-fluffles.
