mourning gown bodice

Right, I was going to show you some pics of the bodice, wasn't I? The bodice is all finished except for the line of trim under the bust, which obviously will go on after the skirt.
Enjoy these extremely detailed pictures of a black garment in indoor light. They show up really well. (But it does at least look like a Thing now!)

If you can't tell (you probably can't. Like I said, DARK), the bodice is covered with messily pleated organza, with organza trim at the neck, and the sleeves are just the plain silk taffeta. And it is indeed a very high waistline! Closes in the back with hooks and bars - hopefully just the two that are on there now...

And the inside, so you can see my very careful and exact stitches. *shifty eyes* I did actually tack down the seam allowances, which is out of the ordinary for me. I'm lazy!

And some pics of covering the taffeta bodice in organza - again, very carefully and exactly. Hah hah.
A back piece.

Back piece covered in organza and pinned to within an inch of its life. It was more difficult than you'd think, to get the organza to look "messily" pleated without looking either too crappy or too uniform!

Stitch it down and trim the extra off! Lather, rinse, repeat. The front piece was especially fiddly!

Speaking of fiddly... I did tear the piece of gauze to the length I want, and was going to start hemming tonight, but...hmm, maybe not.
