Was crabby today for various reasons, but day was improved by buying a truly excessive amount of wool from Joann's today. It's 75% off since our store's closing, plus my employee discount...equals a LOT of wool. Hey, it's nice wool, and while it's not $30/yd worth of nice, it's definitely less-than-$7.50/yd worth of nice!

I may or may not have bought most of what was left in our store. (Our store is quite small so that's not as expensive as it sounds.) If it's still there after payday I'll probably buy the rest of it and see if I can sell it on to one of you at a huge markup. *grin* It very well might be...things only went 75% today, but I've been working there for weeks, eyeballing the wool, and no one has bought it. I seem to live in more of a polyester-and-quilting-cotton kind of community.

Woooooool! Yum! (Is there any of the heavy cream left, or did you already buy it all? Although really, I'd take any of it...)

There's still cream wool left! (mostly because that was the only one I couldn't think of any immediate use for, haha) And still some black and some bright red.

I think there's enough ears perking up in the comments that I will just get the rest of it if it's still there!

The Joanns near me almost never has real wool. It is all the polyester "wool" look. Much wool envy!

Oh, boo, I hate that stuff! Nobody ever buys the real wool, so I don't know if they'll even get it in at the new store, but I hope so - it is good quality (if not worth what they usually charge for it!)

This on top of the fabric dot com wool? :-D Make sure to check out the silks and linens as well! Even the small stores are supposed to have white, black, red, and ivory silk.

Yup! ;) It's okay, I kept most of it on bolts, so it's easier to store. -->totally warped thinking

We've still got a decent selection of linen, but it's only 50%, and since I'm not quite dying for want of linen, I'm going to hold off til that goes 75% too. People don't seem to buy natural fibres in my store, so it may still be there. (Especially once the bolts get wrapped up - what lunatic wants to buy a whole bolt of linen? hehe)

No silk, though, and I'm bummed! They haven't had it for ages - I guess when it ran out they didn't bother restocking since the store's moving.

Sounds like you're going to buy all of it anyway so why bother? :P Otherwise I probably would. And maybe when the linen goes...

Yeah, you'll end up getting some of it one way or another - even I don't think I need that much wool! ;)

Done! (Er,if it's still there end of the week. I'll let you know.)

And, happily, probably not - this store is closing to move to a bigger location, and the manager told me they'll be keeping me on there, though I'm trying to be very very well behaved til the new store opens & I still have a job, just in case!

Our local one just moved a couple weeks ago, and I didn't buy any costuming fibers except a bolt of buckram. Everything else isn't that fun: two bolts of cotton shirting for linings, two bolts of muslin, two bolts of sew in interfacing, a bolt of stretch denim and a bolt of pretty cotton sateen.

I'm surprised they didn't do what ours did: the old store was open until the 11th and the new one opened on the 12th.

Yeah, our new store opens May 17th, and this one closes day before. I am SO tired of telling customers that, btw...read one of the FIFTY MILLION SIGNS that are plastered all over the store, how 'bout that?? *flop*

Oh, yeah, the same thing happened at this store, too. I've just come to the conclusion that everyone either can't read or is too nearsighted to read anything farther than a foot away.

Or they're just dumb. We'll stick with that.

Twenty yards of wool. The $29.95/yd wool. I am officially set up with wool FOREVER. Or at least til I go back and buy the rest of it after next payday (damn, forgot they had grey! it was on the wrong shelf...)

That's a hella alotta wool. So...that's enough to dress 4 centuries worth of winter gowns. Or 5?

Yup, pretty much! The bright red and the black are destined for outerwear in a couple different centuries (I got less of those), the blue is probably going to replace the wool I have for my 1870s ice skating dress (if I ever get around to making it!!) since the Joanns wool is nicer, and the cranberry...well, I couldn't just leave it there allll alone could I??
