Moving on from the 1920s - I got a Fun Thing in the mail today.
danabren knitted me some 18thc mitts, and they're rather fabulous, I must say! I picked out some silken merino wool and she made them for me. I want to wear them allll the time!
(I won't, because the evil hangers at work would destroy them in short order. But they're sitting next to me at the moment so I can pet them!)

And they cover my elbows! Wheee! Now I don't have to make a shift with longer sleeves!
Now I'm going to ruminate on What's Next In The World of Costuming...
The autumn dress is going on the back burner for now. I just don't like the pumpkin silk enough with the brown. I think I've found some silk in a better color from puresilks, but I'm going to hold off for the moment. I don't think I'd have enough time for a totally new outfit from the skin-out, including a new corset, in a month. I know me. I get distracted too easily.
Besides, I still have to make a dress for the Titanic exhibit, and I still didn't finish the petticoat. Seriously.
And then there's the possible Victorian ice-skating...I haven't exactly had an outpouring of enthusiasm for that, does anyone still want to do that? If not I have plenty of other things to sew, believe me!
Mainly 18th century, all the time. I'm crazy excited for the Francaise Dinner in March - completely unnecessary three-outfit event? What? I blame Judy. WELL, new sack gown, of course, is one; then there's the Turkish Ottoman outfit for after-dinner lounging and tea-drinking, then Judy pointed out we should really dress for breakfast as well. I mean, if at all possible. And I want a different outfit for that! Hey, if I already had anything remotely appropriate, I wouldn't bother making a new outfit, but...
Doesn't breakfast in an 18thc inn just sound like a quilted petticoat, jumps, sack jacket, and mules? I think staying 1760s the whole time will be fun (and then I don't have to worry so much about my hair, hah!). And maybe drive home in it too, just for shits and giggles. Hey, I'm not that far from the General Warren, and if it's comfy...
When I say "quilted petticoat"...don't worry. I do not intend to try and quilt a petticoat for reals. I intend to cheat massively and back some pintucked silk with batting, because I can't find any pre-quilted or matelasse fabric I remotely like. (I KNEW I should have bought that quilted silk from fabric.com when they had it last year! Or the year before...)
Jacket and petticoat, whatcha think?

AND THEN there's the mantle. There seems to be a bit of an 18thc mantle/capelet fever going round some of my LJ friends, and I'm extremely susceptible to these kinds of things, so I think I'm going to join in.
I haven't 100% decided on the color yet, but I'm leaning toward this green, which I think would go nicely with the Expensive Fabric. Though maybe I might want something that's not a pastel? Decisions, decisions!
