Striped 1770s jacket photos
Dec. 4th, 2012 07:01 pmOff work today; though it was an unsuccesful sewing day for several reasons (though it's not bedtime yet, so who knows!), it was so unseasonably warm, I decided I wanted to play dress-up and get pictures of the striped jacket I made in April and haven't worn yet.
Realized I probably won't ever wear it, because the only reasons I have to wear middling-class 18thc are all during cold weather months - and this jacket's cotton. Maybe some year it'll be unseasonably warm for Fort Fred?
Whatever. It's not like not having a reason to wear something has ever stopped me before.
Lil' Sis is used to being dragged places to take pictures of me in my costumes, and I don't even have to bribe her any more. It's great. We just walked to the little Revolutionary-era cemetery two blocks from our house for a decent background (so convenient!) An old guy walking his dog seemed to think we were a bit odd...

Had to make a point to show off my AD stockings...

I think I went over everything that was wrong with this jacket so I won't go over it again in detail (and hopefully it's been long enough that you've forgotten everything I said!). The sleeves are not the best I've ever made, but they aren't wildly horrible. I do have to pin the jacket to the petticoats at the front so it doesn't crease up too much at the waist and look horrible, but you can't see the pins unless you get close, as most of you know. And the pleats at the back aren't too impressive, but I really winged it and made like one mockup, so. Leftover fabric FTW.
