Oh, ebay. I seem to be determined to spend the chunk of money I had set aside for Gettysburg, whether I'm there or not! I was in an "oooh shiiiiny!" sort of mood today...

Well, just the one tiara, actually. I've been watching it for months and months...really cost too much, but I'd be kicking myself if it sold out! Tiara for my 1800 gown for Court dinner? Don't mind if I do!

And now hopefully seven people won't comment saying they have it and were planning on wearing it then, too...

The other jewelry buys were far more resonably priced (you know, the kind that sells for less than the shipping from China you're paying)...I've got my eye on another rhinestone necklace, but these two are all mine now!

I need more bling, okay?

It's that brown necklace that really got me in trouble. It got me thinking. Thinking is dangerous!

It made me think of the color of the hat I borrowed from Robin last weekend, and I really liked that color. That necklace would look good with a bustle gown. That color would probably coordinate with that dark brown silk taffeta I have. And I did tell[livejournal.com profile] madamekatI would try to make a bustle dress for Rockwood's ball...

HOLD THE PHONE I HAVE AN IDEA!

Well, first I waited to see if I won the auction (I did, so clearly this is meant to be). Then I flipped through all my costume books, and came up with this plate, from December 1876:

Then I checked to see how much of the brown taffeta I have left, since I've been cutting into it for things here and there. Seven yards? Sounds good! So that'll work for the basque and skirt...now for the sash and train...

Yep, that works! Thanks, ebay! Only thing I'm not sure of yet is the trim - the leaves on the skirt and train in the fashion plate are embroidered, and needless to say, that's not happening. Must think. Edit: Trim is found! And very reasonably priced, too, epecially considering the width (over 3").

...Maybe I'll actually finish this dress, heh. And now I have to make a new corset, because the 1869 one I use now doesn't fit well enough to get that kind of fit in the hips, and it's not long enough for that basque anyway. Plus I want a spoon busk. Hooray, I'm annoying!

Good thing it turns out I can't help at Holly Nights at Pennsbury, anyway - I work too late, and wouldn't be able to be up there til the thing's half-over! So I don't need the mantua yet. :P

So, the updated-as-of-today List of Insanity:
December 13 - Cairnwood by Candlelight - 1913 evening dress. Because I finished the corset, so that means the outfit's, like, almost done, right?
January 12 - Rockwood Victorian Ball - this new Plot of an 1876 evening dress. And new corset and petticoat. Ew.
January 26 - Titanic exhibit - red wool 1913 dress
February 2 - Regency card party - 1800 white gown & blue/bronze striped open robe. Unless I change my mind again!
March 9 - Francaise dinner - new brocade dress (the Expensive Sack) and Turkish Ottoman outfit for lounging about afterward.
Plus an ice-skating dress thrown in there somewhere. Someone needs to help me pick a date!

Totally do-able! Um. Possibly. Riiiight.

Good to know you can't make Holly Nights. Maybe I won't get 6 yards of wool for a mantua, then. Poo, I was kind of looking forward to trying one!

Yeah...well, you can still make one! Just without a deadline! (Okay, for me, I know that means it'll never get finished...) One can never have too much wool, at any rate.

Can I borrow some bling for the card party and the francaise dinner?

Also that fashion plate is GORGEOUS.

LOL, I shall do my best! Really, this is all your fault for having that hat in that color and lending it to me...you started it. ;)

I do not have that tiara! Whoo hoo! Gorgeous set. AND I also saw that brown necklace and thought it was stunning. I was sad the clear version didn't look as awesome as the brown. I am SO excited you are making that gorgeous dress! You will wow everyone!

Excellent! As long as the Tiara Queen doesn't have it, I'm good. ;) That necklace just jumped out at me and said WEAR ME WITH A BUSTLE DRESS AND MAKE KAT HAPPY, haha!

Plus the long and fabulous train will give me an excuse to avoid dancing. Much better excuse than "Er...thank you sir but I am in fact an atrocious dancer. No. Really."
