Joann's has been making it really difficult to spend money lately... I had to cash my check from last payday today, and my local Joann's is in the same shopping center so I stopped in, pretty determined to buy something, with the sale and all. Couldn't find a damn thing I wanted! I did consider maybe some wool for a new 18thc petticoat - but only briefly, because even at 50% off it's too much. Linen? Sale price's not terrible, but not good enough to really tempt me. And I couldn't find a shred of silk in the place!
So I just ended up with $20 worth of thread, since it was 50% off. I mean, I do appreciate when I can get the cotton and silk thread for half off, but that's not exactly thrilling, you know? (I ended up with three spools of navy cotton thread, and I'm mystified as to why I bought so many...I knew I picked up one, but three??)
And (older) people who sew ask me why I buy all my fabric online...That's why!
(Intended to get at least a little bit of sewing done today, but slept forever instead! Kind of thought I should take advantage of it while I could.)

Date: 2012-10-19 12:10 pm (UTC)I miss going to Mood in New York, there was so much good non-quilting fabric. And sometimes the prices were crazy but the cloth was usually of such good quality that it didn't matter. I still order from them online, when I can.

Date: 2012-10-20 03:39 am (UTC)Yeah, sometimes I wish I was closer to NY just for that! Philly's Fabric Row's pretty much a joke these days (if you're NOT looking for dead dinosaur); I stopped bothering when not one shop could sell me halfway decent buckram. Pathetic.

Date: 2012-10-19 01:50 pm (UTC)Around here, J's has driven Rag Shop and other chains out of the area, which leaves only the amish quilting shops. They sell cottons and batting and that's it. Oh, and horribly overpriced cotton prints for CivWar re-enactors.
Grumble.

Date: 2012-10-20 03:43 am (UTC)Same here - though I do still have one store close that's good for cheap trims, that's about it. And their fabric's not great, anyway. And Fabric Row in Philly doesn't even deserve the name any more. Internet it is!
