Aug. 19th, 2012 07:14 pmThe Jazz Age Lawn Party was lots of fun! We definitely plan to go again next year, now that we know what to expect and have a better plan of action - and now I have a dress, so I don't have to worry about making another 1920s dress ever again! Or until someone comes up with an event in a different season.
You'll have to wait for pictures until I can steal someone else's, though - it's very diffucult to take pictures with a camera you've put in the purse you didn't bring to the event!
Which I believe is going to be Belvidere's Victorian Days, on the second weekend of September. I was rather tempted to make a new 1870s dress for either that or
madamekat 's Victorian party at the end of September, because I know I've only worn the striped dress once, but I made it last year so I'm tired of it anyway!
Which is stupid, so I'm going to try to resist! If I didn't have two other events in October I want new outfits for, I'd probably go for a new Victorian, but...The first weekend in October is the battle of Germantown reenactment, and then the next weekend plans are afoot for the PA Ren Faire, and I'd rather have new outfits for those.
Well, I need anew outfit for the Ren Faire, because I've pulled apart everything 16thc I own, either because it sucked and Irecycled the fabric, or because I meant to fix it but never got around to it. Oh, except for the Venetian dress, but I got rid of the camicia that goes under it because it was just too grotty, so can't wear that either. And let's be honest, I just want a new 16thc outfit! Have a nearly finished kirtle that just needs a hem, and then I'll make a linen jacket to wear over that. Not too complicated.
And as for Germantown, I know there was sort of a plan to do riding habits this year, but I'm not sure if that's still anyone's intention? If not I think I'll put it off for a bit, as I know I want to hand sew the whole thing and make a new pair of stays, and I don't know if I'll have time for it all. (Plus I know I'll need to build up a little store of money to buy all those buttons! Eek!) If not, I can either wear my red/white striped jacket or the cranberry wool, which would be sensible - or I could make the matching gown and petticoat out of the blue/white striped linen I've meaning to make for ages, which would be not sensible, but fun! I always need more 18thc dresses!
Before any of these Fun Things, though, I really really need to finish the c1700 stays for Pennsbury...they probably think I've stolen their supplies and run away, especially as I missed their sewing day yesterday for the lawn party! (No, trust me, I don't want your large, oddly-shaped, steel-boned stays. I promise they will come back!!) Not especially thrilling, but I need to get them out of here.
And I still want my own c1700 outfit, but without a deadline, it's hard to get going on it. Ehh, put it on the list!
Okay, enoughblathering on here, I need to go sew eyelets! Hoorah.
