Jazz Age Lawn Party

Okay, now that the Regency chemisette is done (enough) and worn, it's time to move on to bigger and better things! Or, well, upcoming things, anyway, which is pretty much the same thing.

To wit, the Jazz Age Lawn Party, on the 18th. First and most importantly, who's planning on going? bellamissella pointed out to me that the VIP ticket packages are a really good deal - $45 for admission, a three-course lunch, five cocktails or beers, dance lessons, and a gift certificate to a hat shop. (Personally I was on board as soon as I read "cocktails", but that may just be me.)

The deal's only good for four more days, though - I plan on buying mine as soon as somebody leaves a comment here saying they're definitely still going to the JALP!


I have some mint green cotton lawn that's been languishing in the Stash for ages, and that's pretty much the only summer-1920s-dress-appropriate fabric I've got on hand. That isn't earmarked for something else already, that is.  I'd much rather have a print, but as I have wicked designs on a certain fabric for my ice-skating dress (new exciting plan! spend money! hooray! More on that later, if I actually get said fabric), I need to stick with the Stash.

Only have a very vague plan for this dress so far - I'm being very pro-active, right?

I'd really like something like this McCall pattern shows, but have serious doubts about my attention span as regards all those rolled hems.

This dress isn't bad either...

I was close to buying this dress pattern from Past Patterns, but there's something in me that resents having to pay for patterns. If it's a book of patterns, a la Patterns of Fashion or Costume Close-Up, I'll shell out my money quite cheerfully, but actual patterns? I don't like doing that. No idea why. I'm strange.

(Oh, unless they're on sale for $0.99 at Joanns. That, I'll pay.)

I might make a dress like the Past Patterns one, anyway, though. Can't be too difficult to figure out on my own, right? Right?

I think the key to me liking that dress will be the fact that it has a sash at the waist, so it will be a bit less of a shapeless sack, which is what bugs me about the 1920s. Okay, I've talked myself into an adaptation of the Past Patterns dress!


Edit: And why is it so hard to find a reasonably priced cloche that has a decent shape?? All my usual sources have failed me! I will not be pleased if I have to go hatless.
