New, slightly different article from NBC on the bras that my friend linked me to!

Most notably, this one says the underpants weren't women's. Take that, Daily Mail!

I'm not sure I believe they're men's. I also don't believe the blanket statement that women didn't wear ANYTHING EVERY under their shifts. I mean hello what do you think they DID for that time of the month? sure maybe some ladies sat around and bled on a tissue but the majority of them had things to do!

There's plenty of evidence of women's undergarments in the Classical period as well as a surviving bra from the Regency. It's hard to imagine we forgot how to make simple support garments between the two. And there HAS to be a way to deal with the monthly issue. I'm not surprised it exists- just that it survived!
