I finished the ornament today - hooray for finishing things! I worked on the beading for about an hour and a half, then it took another hour and a half to finish up the rest of it - total of about five hours.

Picking out all the teeny-tiny bits of tissue paper from between the beads was about as fun as you can imagine it was, by the way! After the motif was cleaned off (there are now teeny-tiny bits of tissue paper all over my floor), I basted the design to a slightly-smaller rectangle of scrap buckram (off-center, oops), sewed a loop of ribbon to the top edge, and sewed another rectangle of silk to the back with a running stitch. Visible hand-sewing is totally more crafty, you guys. And that's it!

And with flash - scary!

Last-minute bridal shower things finished, I decided to move on to the mitts, and get at least my least-favorite part done with, anyway. Fitting! It's rather difficult to fit a mitt on yourself, but I did my best. It took way too long, too.

Finally, I had a not-too-horrendous pattern (hopefully - we'll see!), and I had the fun of seeing what I could find in the scrap bin. My choice of wool was pretty limited, but wool is What I Wanted for these mitts, so I came up with a dark green wool crepe, and pink linen for the lining.

I cut out all the pieces, and got as far as sewing one mitt together - and then realized I'd sewn it backwards. Hmm. Ripped it out, and figured that meant I should stop sewing for the night!

Lovely bead work!

Awww, that sucks about sewing the mitt backwards. We've all done that with something! Can't wait to see you progress on the project. Where'd you get your pattern? I need one for the Francaise dinner.

Thanks! Gotta brush up for 1912, y'know... :D

And yeah, at least it was just a mitt, not the entire half of a bodice or something! Then I'd be annoyed. I followed the shape of the pattern in Costume Close-Up, but it was really as simple (or as complicated!) as making a tube of fabric for my forearm, poking a hole for the thumb, and then getting it to fit.
