1840s and costume-ADD

Finished the flounced petticoat today...I feel so very accomplished. I might be able to finish the top petticoat tonight as well, depending on whether 1/ I manage to pry myself away from the computer after posting this, and 2/ all I need to do is put the waistband on. If it ends up needing to be longer, I'll take the flounce off and move it down (yay cheating!), but I won't get that finished tonight.
And I tried the corded and flounced petticoats on at the same time, and WOW, FLUFFY. I'm still impressed with all the volume from just cords and muslin! Probably won't stop being impressed by it any time soon, either... I'm easily impressed, yes?
Now for the CADD-ing...I went to see the Nutcracker ballet today with my family (Christmas Tradition, doncha know). The Pennsylvania Ballet performs in the Academy of Music, which is a gorgeous old building, built in 1857. I think we might know where this is headed...I've been going there and seeing performances since I was about four years old (back in the day when they had a net over the ceiling cause they didn't have the money to fix it, and the orchestra still performed there), but today it really struck me how much fun it would be to dress up and go to a performance there. Probably a ballet or opera, depending on which season all this plotting comes to fruition!
It probably doesn't hurt that, since I've been working on my 1840s outfit, I'm much more interested in 19th century fashions! Not that I wasn't before, but now I WANT.
Here are a couple crappy photos I took when I was in the Academy today...if you want to see better pictures, Google's helpful!

But it's such a pretty building, how can I not take advantage of it? Eventually. And I'm thinking I (and whoever I harass into coming with me) will have to splurge on floor-level box seats...cause 1857 skirts are not gonna fit in regular ones! *smirk*
There's no way this will happen before next season, as there's only one opera that would be close to appropriate for a late 1850s-early 60s dress (and YES, that would bother me!!), and it's in February, so not enough time to make a dress, and the tickets are probably mostly gone already. But this is totally going to happen. Yes.
Now, all I have to do is get OVER myself and convince myself that my c.1864 hoop and c.1869 corset are not completely out of the realm of possibility of wearing...um. Wellll. I mean, if I don't do this til fall... *shakes head at own insanity*
Also, for God's sake, TRY to use something from the Stash for the dress. PLEASE. I mean...fall's a long time away, so we'll see...
