In which I spend much moneez

That's it; "helpin teh economee" is officially getting its own tag. God knows I use it enough.
I went to the Guitar Center nearest me on the way home from work (home by way of Barnes & Noble, unfortunately for my bank account), tromped in, and cheerfully asked for "that Fender acoustic that's $99." Much hunting among the guitars and puzzlement ensued among the employees. "Maybe it was a Black Friday special?" one of them, very helpfully suggested. "Maybe," I agreed, mostly because I had started thinking I was the batshit crazy one.
(No, I wasn't. Their website can bugger off, if they're going to make up sales and keep them listed when they AREN'T REAL. Going to the tiny local music shop next time. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS, harr. Not that that's the employees' fault, they were very nice to the rambling idiot who kept knocking over cardboard boxes and tripping over things.)
Having walked into the store determined to leave with that guitar, though, I left with that guitar! For more than $99, yes. But it is PRETTY and SHINY and I can tell is going to be waaaay easier to play than the crap one (in terms of the action, not me being a shitty player still.)
Was very hard not to squee and dance with glee when I walked out of the store...good thing I resisted the urge, as I was stopped by the bored guy at the front door ("Gotta stamp your receipt," as if he hadn't seen me pay for the thing three and a half feet away from him fifteen seconds before). Was terrified driving to meet my mam and sis at Barnes and Noble, as the thing was sliding around in the trunk, case-less ("DON'T DIE, BABY!")...it's getting the case the crap guitar was stored in, which will have to survive naked for now.
Had plans to buy a new planner there, as I wanted a pretty one, dammit, and Wal-Mart always has ugly ones (SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS). Did not have plans to buy anything else, since I had what lurking in my trunk at that very moment? Hmm, yes, I seem to have contracted temporary amnesia as to how much money I'd already spent today when something else shiny caught my eye.

The Beatles Vs. The Rolling Stones: Sound Opinions On the Great Rock'n'Roll Rivalry.
And it is shiny...the photo on the front's holographic and changes between the two bands...this angle happened to be Stones. So, yay, another book for me to add to the piles on the floor that I bang my toes on all the time and swear at profusely!
(This reminds me that I really want to get my hands on Their Satanic Majesties on vinyl. Oh, good, more money.)
Read a bit of it in the store, of course (wouldn't have bought it otherwise!), and it's quite funny; the two authors "debate" the merits of both bands, though as one author put it in his introduction, "in the end, the only real answer to the question 'Beatles or Stones?' is 'Both!'" Hee. Read the entire thing when I got home, of course (Now I can return it? Oh very funny)...
Of course I had to take pictures of It soon as I got home. IZ MAH BABY!
I get the feeling I may appreciate this guitar more than the one I dug out of the basement...

The one I dug out of the basement, for comparison.

LOL UGLY.
Actually, cosmetically they aren't extremely different, because 1/it's a freaking acoustic guitar, there aren't THAT many variations on it, and 2/ Yay Asian knockoffs! It's a Samick, which is so not impressive, not least because its Wikipedia page is really crappy.
...Okay, fine, the DG-60 was manufactured in China. Shhhhh.

See? Shiiiiiiiiny.
I'll try not to bonk this one into walls and door frames and the like. But the nick the Basement Guitar's got in it wasn't from me, I swear.
OKAY, now I am not allowed to go out and spend money for the next two weeks! Unless I go to the thrift store for more black clothes for work. BUT NO SHINY.

Date: 2010-11-30 06:30 am (UTC)Love the front cover of that book, but how can you chose between the Beatles and the Stones??? I couldn't. It would be like asking do you like your left leg or your right arm better?

Date: 2010-12-01 04:31 am (UTC)I know, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the book! Which is why I had to pick it up and start leafing through it...I was pretty much sold when I realized 1/it was funny, and 2/ both authors actually love both the bands, and couldn't really make a concrete decision either way. :D
Like me. I love them both (I'll throw the Who in there as well, because I love them That Much, too), and it kind of depends what sort of mood I'm in as to which I think I love best...or which album I've got on at the moment. ;)

Date: 2010-12-01 04:38 am (UTC)And okay, for future reference, you're the Beatles! ;) Rather the wholesome (unless you ask my grandma: "THEY NEED HAIRCUTS!") moptops than the filthy delinquents! I wonder what my grandma thought of the Stones...no, I think I know, lol.

Date: 2010-12-01 04:43 am (UTC)And the best part of it all, is that I went on the site after I got home, and it was still listed as $99. I feel like I might be able to make a stink about that, but I don't really care THAT much, and I'm so not that type of person! Just annoying, really. "Awesome price for Fender! In store near you! Except...LOL J/K, NOT REALLY HAHAHA! WE MAKE YOU LOOK STUPID!"
Which is why I'm going to a local music shop next time. Guitar Center doesn't really need my money anyway! :P
