mandie_rwFirst of all, this. Live at Leeds "Super Deluxe Collectors' Edition." To be released Nov. 15th. Saw the link to it on facebook and was like, psh, I already have the deluxe edition, it's the whole show, how much more deluxe can it get?
"The original intention was to release the recording from the Hull City Hall performance the following night after Leeds as the live album. The recording from Leeds, the first gig of the tour, was largely set up as a back-up in case there were any problems with the Hull recording. Suffice to say, upon listening to the tapes it was thought that John Entwistle’s bass was missing from the Hull recording. With little they could do to repair the tapes in those days, the band went with the Leeds recording for release instead, despite preferring the Hull performance. “Hull was a better gig than Leeds,” recalls Roger Daltrey. “I remember it like it was yesterday, although in retrospect ‘Live At Hull’ doesn’t really trip off the tongue!”
Now years later the Hull tapes were revisited and it was discovered that because the first reel consisting of four tracks had no bass,everyone had assumed that the whole show had no bass and didn’t listen to any more of it,but in fact the rest of the gig was complete.
Through the wonders of modern technology, however, the full Hull recording has been repaired by flying in Entwistle’s bass tracks from the Leeds recording to repair the Hull tapes and is now available in it’s entirety for the first time ever."

I WANTS IIIIIIIIT! Of course this Super-Deluxe-Awesome-Whatever Package also has the Leeds performance, plus a reproduction of the original vinyl Leeds album, plus a single, plus a hardcover book with pictures and stuff, plus I don't even know what else. Roger Daltrey, probably (he might fit in the box). Which basically means it's going to cost a million dollars, which in turn means I can't have it. Doesn't stop me from coveting it, though! *makes grabby hands*
Really, nice as the book and the vinyl would be, the part I really want is the Hull recording (I think Leeds is a phenomenal recording, and if the band thought the Hull performance was even better than that...*flail*). Maybe someday they could release a slightly less super-deluxe version, with just the Leeds and Hull performances? Or even just the Hull? Yeah, that'll totally happen. Ah well, a girl can dream!
Also, a bit of mindless Stones silliness that is probably not actually funny at all to anyone who is not me, but that's why there's LJ cuts, riiiight?
So I was sorting through my Stones picture file (yes, I have one of those, yes, it's slightly creepy, yes, I also have ones of the Beatles, the Who, and rock and roll in general), and couldn't resist a giggle at one of the pics I came across. It's the Seventies, of course there's something lol-worthy...
(Sparkly eyeshadow on both boys, oh my!)
My younger sister happened to be in the room (she knows almost nothing about the Stones, other than Mick Jagger was in it, and that I listen to their albums all the damn time), and, suddenly inspired, I told her to look at the picture and tell me what she thought the probability of the two guys in the picture being straight.
"Pretty much...not."
*gigglesnort* Reader, I lol'd. I should show her pictures of Queen in the Seventies, she'd really be horrified. Or David Bowie. *plots*
And I realized tonight why I am so annoyed by Justin Bieber. It's not that he sounds like a girl, or sings inane little pop tunes, or that my sister's ipod insists on putting his music into the "R&B" genre. (Really, ipod? Really?). I mean, obviously none of those things help, but...the worst thing Bieber has done, in my opinion, is to make hair that length, to quote my (politically incorrect teenage) sister, "gay." Look, I like boys with nice, longish hair, okay? (It may have something to do with my fetish for 60s musicians, but this is unconfirmed.) And obviously this isn't quite the same, but it's very similar:
OMG JOHN LENNON WAS A JUSTIN BIEBER FAN TOO?? (I think this may need to be a macro.)
So, I can thank the Biebs for ruining not only music generally (which he is not alone in doing), but for making everyone think a Beatle moptop haircut is a Justin Bieber cut. (No, seriously, do a Google image search -- I had to, to stop second-guessing myself, because I'm not that familiar with what the kid's hair looks like! -- it's true.)
On that weird, weird note...I think I need to go to bed. Babbling on about Justin Bieber's haircut...what is wrong with me?

Hehehe, gotta love the picture folders of rock and roll! My biggest fear about my lap getting old was seriously about losing all those pictures. (Then I put them online and now am happy!) That is so sad.

Date: 2010-10-12 05:23 pm (UTC)I really should get myself to the Leeds Uni campus to see the blue plaque where it was recorded. I work in Leeds but somehow I've never found the time to see it. I did a Who tour of London (with a bit of the Stones and Small Faces thrown in) during the summer, but never seen the place closest to me!
Grrr Bieber has stolen the moptop!!! What always get me about him is when you watch that footage of the Who at the Railway Hotel in 1964, Moonie was only about year old than Bieber! It just goes to show you can't blame youth for being rubbish.

probably unsurprisinglymy #1 WANT TO VISIT place, at least partially for the 60s music stuff. What music has New Jersey produced? Bon Jovi? Yeah, I really want to visit where THEY came from. *eyeroll*Giving people another reason to be annoyed by Justin Bieber: all in a day's work! ;) And I never thought about it like that, but you're right! Wow. A world of differnce right there! (I do love watching that footage; Moonie's so young there! Adorable. :D)
