Tonight I am NOT sewing like a madwoman! This is a change from the last two nights. Mary's all delivered and set up, as of this afternoon. I did two blog posts, one on a few construction details and one with finished pics, so I won't write out a whole post here. I'll just note down a few, er, not-as-polished things I didn't put on the blog!

Like the fact that I still had six eyelets to sew on the jacket when I got up this morning. I mean, if I couldn't finish six eyelets in three hours I shouldn't have been making this outfit anyway...but still. Six eyelets. But at least I wasn't up (unreasonably) late sewing either of the last two nights, so that's progress!

And Mary's jacket's a bit "lived-in" already...I dropped a strawberry on a sleeve last night and then dripped tea on the front of the skirts this morning. OOPS. (You can't really see either of them, I wouldn't really give someone a stained jacket...but this is why foods and drinks are dangerous while sewing! But then, so are cats, and that didn't stop me.)

And yeah, it might actually kill me to take a not off-centered photo.

Til I get a post put together, here's a nice unsettling picture to hold you over. What she looked like last night!

Watching me from the back room. I know she doesn't have a head, but she was watching me anyway. I was safe with the doors shut because she doesn't have hands, you see.

And now I finally have a deadline for Mary. This Friday.

AW YEAH DEADLINES

Had a Sewing Day today...wasn't really for any of my things, and we've been more productive in the past. (I probably should stick to hemming miles of organza...)

And somebody left their scissors!

But I did hem the indentured servant's fichu tonight - was feeling too stupid to do anything more complex. And this despite the fact the fichu's the least important part of the whole outfit! Well, it's done anyway.

Striped linen dress: Right sleeve is partially sewn on, and left sleeve is sewn together. Didn't have much sewing time today (cleaning) or yesterday (went to the ballet, didn't get home til 11. Stravinsky concerto and Carmina Burana, and AWESOME).

And I got most of my fabric for Mary's outfit in the mail today - now I'm just waiting on the jacket fabric. And the quilted petticoat fabric, but that I'll get at work.

Checked linen for fichu, natural linen for jacket lining, cotton/linen blend for shift, and striped brown linen for petticoat.

Got the ok from People to post about it, so this is the big reveal. Ooooh. (I didn't think it would be an issue, but hey, this is me trying to be professional. Or something.)

[livejournal.com profile] madamekat is the one that put me in contact with them, so this is her BIG OFFICIAL THANK YOU POST. :D I love when people know people, because I don't know people. Or rather, the only people I know are ones that want me to make curtains (NO) and darn giant gaping holes in knit dresses (seriously?? this is not a SMALL hole. I am not magical!). Not that I'm looking to sew for profit on a regular basis...but I don't mind a bit of extra money here and there, especially when it's something actually in line with my interests.

Anyway. It's for an exhibit at the Whitall House at Red Bank Battlefield. In short, they have an advertisement of a runaway indentured servant from 1762, and they want an interpretation of her outfit from the ad.

For a slightly more in-depth synopsis, go to ze blog. :)
