A nice random entry

I really wanted to update this, but I haven't been doing anything; then I remembered Bastille Day from forever ago, like July or whatever. And how much I loved my hat. So here are a few not-so-good pictures of my hat, because I've actually had the time and stable connection to upload them.

The original cheap straw hat that I dismembered.


The crown and brim. Sewn all by hand, because my machine doesn't like sewing straw for some reason.


Top of hat, with its many many peacock feathers. 

Bottom of hat. Very exciting.

And no, I have no pictures of the hat actually on me. Kinda like there are no pictures of me from Bastille Day. :(

These kind of flat straws are so nice to make, as they're pretty and quick to make (mine took about 3 days of sporadic sewing). When I have a halfway decent excuse I'm making more!

That's a good idea...except I always get so distracted by a new place/time to play dress-up, that I keep making new things and am absolutely horrible at documenting them! I'll see what I can do though. :)

how did you make the crown? did you flatten the existing crown, or take it apart and make your own?

Hmm...I think I took apart all of the original crown, because it was weirdly curvy and more oval-shaped than I wanted.

Hats really make the outfit, though they become something of an occupational hazard in windy weather! (The later afternoon of Bastille Day became just that, and mine REALLY wanted to fly away! It couldn't, because it was pinned on pretty well, so it settled for pulling my hair incessantly and trying to strangle me with the ribbons! :D)
