I think it may be just a Fact of Life with a bodice that's completely unboned/corded/what-have-you! And judging from other-people's-blogs-who-actually-did-research, there is plenty of evidence of wrinkly fronts under those flemish dresses (which I know isn't what you're shooting for, but still applies for the "supportive but unboned kirtle" aspect). So I think crumpley is valid!
