Allaire barn dance: Rainbow trout edition

The fates did a bit of conspiring against us, but we triumphed in the end, mostly because we don't take anything seriously and are determined to have fun No Matter What.
This is my favorite picture of me of the night - Rob took it and Robin instagrammed it (on the ride home, and this was probably the picture that made us miss our exit off 195, since our navigator was distracted, hehehe).

We went to Panera for an early dinner beforehand, and then went to Georgian Court University's arboretum for pretty pictures, as it's not far at all from Allaire, and the campus is based in an historic and pretty late-19th/early 20thc estate and the gardens are open to the public...
...and then we got thrown out of Georgian Court by an overly-zealous rent-a-cop before managing to get any pictures. I'm at the point now where it's more hilarious than aggravating, but we were all pretty pissed off last night! To his credit, some of us did attract attention by driving down a one-way road the wrong way and then having trouble finding an acceptable place to park. And apparently we were supposed to check in with the security guard at the entrance (who wasn't in the booth, but the gate was open). Okay, fine. However, there's a polite way to ask what this group of loonies is doing on the campus and a rude-as-hell one, and Small-Dick Rent-a-Cop chose the latter.
"You can't be here, this is a private campus." Okay, but the website says it's open every day to the public from 8am to dusk... "Why are you here?" Um, we wanted to take pictures? "You're not allowed to take pictures here. You have to leave your information with the security guard, license, tags, etc." But your website says... "THIS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY. YOU HAVE TO LEAVE."
Ehhhh, go fuck yourself, chappie. I think more than one of us considered Making A Thing out of it (what are you gonna do, arrest us? Right, you're not a real cop), but the path of least resistance was to leave, while muttering extremely rude things and glaring in his direction. I am, however, going to send the campus a nasty yet very polite email about my excessive disappointment and is this how visitors are treated and is this the extremely unwelcoming image they want to project, etc.
Anyway. We made it to Allaire after that, and enthusuastically abused all shitty security guards to
misspeachum and Co. And settled for pictures at Allaire, under an extremely threatening sky. They ended up making the call to move the dance into the visitor center due to the forecast thunderstorms - I think there was one good spate of rain at the very beginning of the ball time, but it was clear when we got out at 9. The visitor center was maybe not ideal for a dance, since there wasn't actually much open space. We were sort of crammed in a hallway-type thing, and the caller wasn't my favorite.
However! As I said, we make our own fun, and I do like dancing, so I had a very good time when I wasn't completely winded from extremely long dance sets! Our sleeves decidedly didn't fit in the dance space, which was pretty entertaining. And my calves hurt today, because I'm an enthusiastic dancer (well, why not hop around? it's great exercise and it's fun!) and dance very bouncily. And Adrienne very cleverly brought a basket of water bottles, so nobody got dehydrated...which was needed because we all did a lot of sweating! So sticky and disgusting.
We were all cheerfully overdressed for a "barn dance", but I, at least, will be wearing it to the dance in New Castle this Christmas, so that's perfectly alright.

And my shoesies! They held up very well - unsurprisingly since the dance was on tile, haha.

Soooo fluffy!

Something is terrifying. xD

Always running in costume.

The mitts came off after a couple dances...they were damp. Ew.

You can't see the spangles on the lace, but that's ok - I imagine they'd look very nice in candlelight, if by chance this dress ever went to a candlelit event, haha.

Slippers!

My front curls went all to hell even before I started getting all melty in the dances - I pinned them up later but they look pretty sad here! Ah well. It was 90% humidity last night! I was pleased with the rest of the hair though! I didn't make any new hairpieces, as they didn't seem necessary for a barn dance that was probably gonna get rained on! Just a couple of fake braids and a bunch of real roses. I like sticking real flowers in my hair when I can...despite the thorns, haha.

Oh, a fence. Let me climb on it.

These two. You'd never think it was their anniversary.

Well, maybe. ;)

Let me iiiiiiin!

Really pathetic picture of the dancing, but you can see the dance space...
And a couple filched from Alice, Robin, and Tessa's mom.

I am just so entertained by climbing on stuff in costume.

So much oldey-timey-ness!

Look presentable! (The sad curls are pinned up here.)

Too much duck.

Another view of the dancing - you can see both the space and my Very Determined dancing stance.

I LOVED the appliques on
blackcat452's dress.

Robin played with this photo and I think it looks so Romantic!

This was almost the end of the night, and you can see that my dress has traveled down my shoulders some lenth - I'm going to have to take it in a bit more at the top. No danger of indecency, it was just annoying.
All in all it was a fun night, and I think we all looked smashing! (Photobucket album!) I'm quite happy with the rainbow trout and I'll be chuffed to wear it again for New Castle. Now, to do a less swearword-filled blogger post...
ETA: Not sure if it's locked, but this is a video Tessa's mom got of the first dance. Just Jessica and I are dancing out of our group, but you can see the space (or lack thereof), the extreeeeeeemely long sets (yes, he cycled through that entire line to have everyone be top couple, omg), and an extremely ridiculous face on yours truly. We'd missed the explanation as to what dance we were doing, so that's why I look exceptionally stupid at the beginning...
