Guys, Hedgehog Handworks is having a saaaaaaaaaale through the 15th...they don't seem to have the broad plate but they sure do have the spangles!

Gah, I was thinking of buying just a little bit of silver plate, testing out that dot-making, and seeing how insane that would really make me...but this might've made up my mind for me.

I love doing silver plate. I did it for that white and silver late 18th century dress. it's not a quick technique, but I love how it looks, blending nicely in to the fabric.

I thought your white dress had silver plate! Which looked stunning, by the way. I'd love to try working with it but I would also like to *finish* something embellished with it, which I suspect I wouldn't on something like this. Pretty winding floral designs are one thing, but a million tiny dots seems like a bit of a waste of time and plate!

I'm really interested to see how you solve this problem, because it's been biting at me since i patterned a dress with a silver-dotted ground! Spangling is probably the simplest solution.

Since a few people Who Ought To Know have backed up my suspicion of silver plate, I really would like to try it! I think once I figured out a technique that worked, it wouldn't be too difficult...But I would also really like to have a dress to wear, like, ever, let alone this August! And I seriously doubt I'd have the stamina to make all those wee dots out of plate without completely losing my shit, haha. I'm definitely filing it away as A Thing That Should Be Attempted Someday, though!
