I didn't do much actual sewing today, but I feel very productive anyway. You may remember that the back of the kirtle was just a touch too big, and I needed to take a piece out. Well, I very decidedly took a slice out today! *snip snip snip* "Gee, I hope I'm not making this too small."

You can see how much I took out - a fair amount!

There was a good bit of a gap on both sides when I first put it on (remind me how much I hate side-back lacing next time I say I'm making a kirtle), but after ten minutes I could lace one side all the way shut, and the other less than an inch apart. If it doesn't stretch any more right now I'm perfectly fine with that gap. It's not the top layer! From long experience with stays though, I suspect it'll stretch a bit more as I wear it.

Right after I put it on (and tried not to stab myself in the face with pins...good fun):

And after about ten minutes. I couldn't leave it on much longer than that because I had to go to work. So inconvenient!

It's quite boob-tastic (shut up. For me it is), but recall the neckline of the smock will show above the kirtle an inch or so, so it's not going to be quite as low cut as it looks now. And I'm very well-pleased with the length of this bodice - it's short enough not to dig into my hips, but just long enough to push down the flesh at my waist so it pooches out below the bodice. Which sounds stupidly unflattering, but go with me here...instant skirt support, no? It's a bumroll! :D I was going to pad out both the pleats of the kirtle and the gown, but I'm thinking I might just do the gown. The kirtle's going to have a lot of fabric squished into a small space anyway...

Anyway, I marked where the straps go, and I can sew them on tonight. Then tomorrow I can balance the skirt and maybe start sewing it on (OMG is it really true?!?).

OH, and a couple weeks back I made myself a very reasonable weekly schedule, in which to get this all done, even left myself a small buffer during the last week, and I'm pretty well still on schedule. Last night I realized I forgot to allot any time to do the scarletwork for the puffs and cuffs. WHOOPS. So...maybe that particular aspect won't be done for Oct. 11. Not too upset about that, as I wasn't planning to get my Nice Photos that day anyway. (Let's face it, the PA ren faire doesn't make for great backgrounds.)
