Annoying double-post
Oct. 10th, 2012 08:36 pmSewing..? BUT FIRST, CADD TIME!!!
So, Cairnwood by Candlelight is a thing that's happening...
I'm really really trying to stick with the Stash for this. REALLY. So my options are a bit limited as I don't have any silk that would be good for an end-of-the-19thc dress that's not already earmarked for something (though I haven't properly looked over FFC's big silk sale, and I might be convinced by a really good deal). So, options that are presenting themselves at the moment?
1/ My 1913 evening dress that I've been pushing back for months and months! I've got all the fabric, the undergarments are at least started...but I dunno if I want to go that late in date, especially if no one else is. Although I'd rather go later than earlier; I don't like going too much earlier than a house or site was built! (I know no one cares except me, but it's another one of my weird things.)
2/ The only other option in the Stash is a pretty nice black cotton velvet. (Woe is me, I have velvet, right?) Which could either go for:
a/ an 1890 dress, based on one in Bradfield's Costume in Detail, or
b/ a c1901-1905 dress. You know, velvet, drapey, etc.
I'd need a new corset for either part of #2, but as my current Victorian corset sucks anyway, corset-making is in my future regardless, so I'm resigned to it! I can't decide between the 1890s and Edwardian, because I think I like the trimmer line of the 90s better than the droopy romantic Edwardian curves (also, hello, curves are not really my thing, they'd need a lot of help!), but then, the drapey dresses of the early years of the century are very elegant!
So...I don't know yet. And I don't need to decide yet! Just...brainstorming. Yeah, that's it. ;)

Date: 2012-10-11 02:09 am (UTC)If it makes you feel better though half of the clothing on exhibit will be 20th century. They do Mother, Daughter and Daughter-in-Law from the family and that covers a pretty wide span.
