Rainy AF Independence Day weekend here in New Jersey! Fine by me as 1/ I didn't have any exciting plans, and 2/ we'll get a bit of a break from the 90+ F weather! (Although at least most of us do have some form of AC, unlike the Pacific Northwest. Holy crap, talk about awful weather. My sympathies to all of you out there!)
Somewhat naughtily cut out a 1950s sundress with no real expectation of finishing it any time soon - I had some free time on Monday so I wanted to Do Something Sewing Related. Even though I knew my fabric.com order (stash full of fabric? whazzat) would probably show up some time this week with Fabric for 1930s Stuff. So I got this pattern (Butterick 6682) cut out and maybe a third put together over the course of the week before my fabric showed up yesterday. Made it out of some extremely squidgey lightweight linen print from the stash - another long-term wardrobe goal has been to incorporate more linen into my summer wardrobe. I will consider this dress a win if I manage to wear it at any point this summer LOL.
The Wearing History patterns haven't gotten here yet, so once the fabric was all washed and ironed I started cutting out this pattern...

BUT IT LOOKS LIKE ORANGE SLICES! SO SUMMERY!
I knew I wanted a stripe for this pattern (like how can you not), but had vague thoughts of a seersucker or something, but then happened to be trawling through the "linen stripe" category and saw this. Funny, because obnoxious prints AND colors together aren't usually my thing, but hey, I'm already doing 1930s, this is a brave new world anyway.
The fabric's a teensy bit stiffer than anticipated, even after the wash/dry, but I forged ahead anyway. We'll see what happens.
This blog post/pattern review has some helpful tips (and is linked for my own reference!), which would probably have been even more helpful if I'd found it before I started cutting, heh. But it's always reassuring to find someone out there who's made the pattern up and had it look nice - I'm always suspicious when there are NO pictures of finished products from patterns out there in the wilds of the internet!
Anyway. I cut out about half the pieces last night before Tom got home with dinner. You may observe that the fabric picture above from the website indicates that the stripe is railroaded, which it indeed is, so I'm playing fast and loose with the grainlines here. I don't think it'll occasion a massive tragedy, but I suppose we'll see.
I SHOULD finish this orange slice dress up before getting into anything else, but I know the WH patterns will show up before that, so...the next month of sewing will probably be me sewing seven different things and not finishing any of them! Hey, whatever makes me happy...
