A small detour: bedgown snoozefest
Jan. 16th, 2020 11:40 pmBecause I don't technically have a deadline for this, which means I can all too easily constantly put it off til "tomorrow"! I mean, it's not a commission, it's out of the goodness of my heart, plus the Indian King's really slow during the post-holiday winter slump...but still, it's an obligation. I fall through on enough of those! Bedgown I really can just bang out. I'm not sure when the linen for the shift will show up, but if I at least get the bedgown done before my little vacations, I'll feel good about myself.
To that end...I finally buckled down and cut out Carly's bedgown today. Pip helped. And by "helped" I mean got locked in his room about 15 seconds after I took that picture because he wouldn't stop attacking the fabric, and stayed locked up all afternoon. Sorry-not-sorry, YOU'RE ANNOYING. I made it slightly differently than my bedgown, just for a bit of variation; made it shorter, pieced in the length of the sleeves rather than cut in one, and added in a tiny extra bit of width to the hem with the triangular wedge I cut out to make the "T" of the underarm. Sure, why not, it's all terribly efficient of fabric! I think I used just about a yard, maybe a bit over.
I'm machining Things You Can't See, so I pieced in the wool bits by machine. Didn't need to piece the lining, since it's a big old hunk of sheet from the cotton scrap bin, LOL! (Actually I'm pretty sure it's a poly blend, but...this is a First Outfit, I am not fussed. The wool is known to be a blend, anyway! I think 70/30? Whatever, it was cheap.) I will hand finish, because it's me, and because I refuse to send an outfit out the door with big honkin' machine stitching where you can see it...and because this wool is super creepy and it would probably end up 6" longer than the lining by the end of the seam! Good times.
I should try and get this mostly out of the way tomorrow. Will I? That remains to be seen. A black wool blend bedgown really is suuuuuper boring to sew...
