modern sewing
Jun. 26th, 2019 10:52 pmDay off today (they're cutting down my hours at the J since they hired someone else to work cutting counter...I applied to a couple Other Retail Locations this afternoon because I swear every single other corporation pays more than they do) and I had nothing much to do (other than aforementioned Other Retail Location applications), sewing-wise...I don't feel any undue pressure for Gettysburg, I want to take a break from Flemish, and our proposed Edwardian outing in August might be put off? rescheduled? and then I won't need a summer dress for it anyway, so that wasn't particularly inspiring either.
So I made a modern-ish dress, or most of one, anyway! It's a vintage pattern (top) in a modern print, anyway...

Yoinked the bodice pattern of Vogue 8789 (a 1957 Vintage Voge sundress) and just used a big ol' rectangle for the skirt. I only had 100" to work with after washing it and trueing up the edges...it was off the clearance table at work and I thought it would just make The Cutest Summer Dress, so snapped it up in the last month or so. Just a cotton broadcloth, but still, cute. Of course, it being 44" width, I had to piece the bodice to make it work, but I remain entirely unfussed at having to piece modern clothing (thank you, historical sewing). Even when it's pretty visible like here.
Might wear it Sunday to the Usual Suspects' meeting for tea and stitch 'n' bitch, if I feel so inclined. Just need to add a hook and eye at the top of the zip, do a bias facing on the armholes, and sew the hem. Not Bad, considering my usual pace LOL.
