Very decent progress on the robe today, despite the fact it ended up totally uneven and I'll have to take half of it out, heh. I couldn't figure out why I ended up with so much more fabric on one side than the other, til I went to start stitching down the pleats...I made the pleats at CB much deeper on one side than the other. Ooops. Well, at least I like the shallower ones, that I started stitching down, better!

I was inspired by the tiny pleats on a 1790s robe in the V&A (whose site of course is being a butthead, so I can't find it to link right now! but it's in 17th/18thc Fashion in Detail), but didn't bother trying to copy it, as that robe is a floral figured satin, and mine's striped cotton. Gotta play with the stripes, you know.

I did manage to stab right under my fingernail while pinning pleats, yay me. So I might be a wimp and avoid the robe and infinite pinning tomorrow on my day off. It's ok, there's plenty of 1830 work to keep me going!
