...because I took pics of the pompom outfit, then wore my cranberry wool gown to work Saturday afternoon BECAUSE I COULD (not too bad, either, though I admit I was ready to get out of those stays at the end of the night! And one woman asked if I was Amish, completely seriously) - and then today
hiraimi and I went to an 18thc Field Day at Red Bank Battlefield.
Really just an excuse to trot out my striped jacket, since I made it a year and a half ago and haven't worn it yet, so the only pictures Alice got were of Yours Truly. Although enough people took pictures of us that one should be floating around somewhere.
Oh, and during our tour of the house, we learned the Whitalls, who lived in the house in the 18thc, were Amish. Gotta tell you, I adore tours of historic houses.
(I think the word you were looking for is...Quaker. What is it with people and the Amish this weekend??)
Anyhow, we spent a good couple hours walking around, eying the soldiers (that might've been a bit more me, upon reflection), and preventing our hats from blowing right off. Windy, down by the Delaware River; who knew? Then we had all good intentions to have a really productive sewing day at my house afterward; of course it wasn't nearly as productive as we might've liked!
Here's documented proof of the stripey jacket's first real outing (oh, and the mitts too, now that I think about it!
danabren knitted them for me and I hadn't a chance to wear them til today! They're really lovely and warm)...

Looking at these pics, it's nice how my arms blend into my skirt. Good choice. Did wear my small roll, which I think was a good idea; I like how it makes the skirts of the jacket stand out. Though I've had this petticoat for yeeeears and I kind of want a new one...
And my 18thc bits & pieces are strewn all around my room right now and I do not want to clean them up!
