Yes we can!
Apr. 8th, 2013 11:23 pmThe question was, can three amateur seamstresses also make a dress in a day, like the mantua-makers in the Margaret Hunter shop in Colonial Williamsburg?
Yes we can! Or, well, nearly so. Strictly speaking, we got about 85% finished today, including matching petticoat and trim, which I plan to finish tomorrow. But the basic dress was done before we decided to plough ahead with (annoying, so my idea) trim and petticoat. And I can't even take credit for that - Robin (
dragoneyes19) and Alice (
hiraimi) sewed all of it except for the back seam of the skirt - I WILL take credit for that! - while I was meticulously (read: slooooowly) hemming endless pieces of silk organza for trim and sewing that on the neckline and sleeves.
More details when I'm not three-quarters asleep - and when I finish the thing, style my wig (it's 1780s), and get pictures! So, hopefully within the next few days.
