Actual sewing, what?
Mar. 29th, 2012 11:59 pmSo we're skipping a day of What I Wear (even though I said I wouldn't!), because I was off work today, and the only reason I had to leave the house was a chiropractor appointment, which I wore sweatpants to. "I'll get really dressed after that." Didn't.
In penitence, and so I would have something to post about, I figured I ought to work on some sewing I didn't really want to! So I finished the petticoat that I meant to have done for last Saturday. It's not terribly exciting, but since I'm a firm believer in "Pics or it didn't happen" on sewing blogs, here you go:

Hand sewn, made of mid-light weight ivory linen. Also, short. Eventually I want to make a cute little 1770s jacket to go with it, out of my leftover seaside bustle gown cotton. I really wish I'd bought a pair of the red Kensingtons, because wouldn't they just be perfect for this outfit? And a black straw hat - but that, I do have!
Anyway, after I finished the petticoat. I was in quite an 18th century mood, and the thought struck me that I want a quilted petticoat! That's not really a new thought, but I've been debating my teensy-weensy attention span's likelihood of allowing me to finish it in less than a decade! Well, sooner I start, sooner it'll be finished, right?
So in the spirit of not completely diving off the deep end, I've decided to make a pair of quilted pockets first. That way I can get some practice in quilting, and see if an entire petticoat would completely drive me round the bend!
I'm going to only shop in the Stash for this project (except for thread), so the batting's going to have to be poly - horrors! I think I have enough yellow silk in the scrap bin for a pair of pockets; if not, I'm sure I can dig something else up. Note to self: check which fabric you're going to use BEFORE you buy thread...
