mandie_rw: me 1950s green dress (Default)
Okay, okay, half of the eyelets are sewn...but after finishing those, I decided I couldn't take any more eyelets. And I was doing some serious lusting after 19th century stuff (re that New Year's Gala thing I mentioned yesterday). So around 9.00 last night, as I was flipping through my costume books, I decided to take a break from the 16th century (ugh, ugh handsewn eyelets!), and make something from a time when they had sewing machines (yaaaay sewing machines!). More specifically, a pair of drawers. Fairly easy and quick to make, right? (Actually it was. No unpleasant surprises.)

I based them on the pair in Costume in Detail on pg. 249, with a bit of tweaking here and there. To be picky, the ones in the book are dated to be from the '70s-'80s, and I'm thinking of making a dress from the '60s...but that's being really picky. I would provide a picture, but a pair of drawers is definitely at the lower end of the exciting spectrum, and I haven't put lace on them yet- haven't got any that I want to to put on them. Add it to the list.

I almost finished the drawers last night, but after I sewed two and a half rows of tucks the wrong way round (mercifully, the bobbin ran out of thread, which made me realize what I'd done), I decided it was time to go to bed. But I finished them this morning (sans lace, like I said), and then instead of being a good girl and sewing eyelets, I finished painting the frame of my mirror, which is now bright and has many exciting colors, unlike before. Counting the time I spent on it on Thursday, which is when I got the Bright Idea to paint it, and proceeded to do so, I've spent ten hours altogether on it. And it's not a very big frame!

As for the eyelets? Well, after I'm done on LJ...maybe.Eyelets just suck.
