I didn't forget to take pictures of the orange and blue gown! I just...forgot while it was light outside, and I like to take pictures of my finished costumes outside, because there's no good light in this house! But I got them today, so all should be well...as soon as I got home I trundled Mabel outside after wrestling her into her stays, which is always entertaining. I always feel sort of funny about kneeling on her boobs to stuff them into the stays...*giggle* Gotta love foam dressforms.

All would have been well a lot earlier, but Photobucket was being a royal PITA about uploading things. *strangles Photobucket*

And I didn't iron the thing, which is never a good thing, but it's been hanging up the past few days, so it's not too horrendous. Usual disclaimers apply...Mabel isn't as Uniquely Me as might be hoped, yadda yadda yadda. And the skirt was Blowin' In the Wind, which is why it looks a bit weirdly inflated.

Closeup of hand-sewing of dubious quality...

Those sleeves look hilariously stupid just standing out there by themselves, don't they? I would go over all the things that are wrong with the dress, like I usually do, but I don't really feel like it tonight, and probably none of you will leave a comment about how the back point totally looks off-center, haha.

To recap the materials and construction: petticoat and bodice front made of silk shantung, gown of silk taffeta, and sleeve ruffles of silk/cotton voile. The skirt seams on the petticoat and gown are sewn on the machine, everything else is handsewn.

And a bit of progress on the striped 1780s gown (it's further along now, but I took a couple quick pics at the same time I had Mabel outside):

They're placed weirdly because I realized the railing was the only thing on the entire deck that wasn't covered in green pollen. Ahh, spring.

Anyway, chevrons in the back: good. Interesting stripe-matching on the side seams: well, interesting. Also, there is an Epic Derp involving the straps that I'll show you all when the thing's sewn together, then it'll be obvious! Hopefully not TOO obvious.

I have serious love of that color combo. And zone fronts. Gorgeous! Also, we are going to have matching striped gowns, since I have that stuff too! ;-) (Well, not at Costume Con, I haven't done anything with it yet!)

I love the tabs on the orange one, and the back pleats are so clean! The stripey one is looking good too, the front is going to look so clean with the stripes matched like that.

That fabric really just begs to be something 18thc, I think!
